Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is something that's crazier than the wildest dreams of any ~1970s nerd, but exists today? I'll start with an easy one:
16·16 days agoWe got most of the tech from the jetsons ppl could envision in the early 1960s (video calls, smartphones, smart watches, smart homes), but still don’t have flying cars, cloud cities, robot maids, and moving sidewalks going everywhere.
Highly recommend reading Domenico Losurdo - Class struggle for more on this.
It gets into how there’s not just a single class struggle, i.e. working class versus bourgeoisie, but many different and related class struggles. Both Marx and Engels held this multivariate view of class struggle too, and it was only later that chauvinists, anti-feminists, and imperialists restricted its meaning to the workplace only.
CIA training? As in the central intelligence agency? They are an intel agency, not military advisors. And neither can do magic (like makeing soviet era leftover equipment to be anything else)
The phoenix program, what’s that?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Run Linux from USB and use storage only for... storage: yay or nay (and why)?
8·21 days agoAlso the smaller OS’s (puppy linux, tailOS) that can run entirely in RAM are going to be fast when it comes to anything but disk reads.
Same. Cardboard box or round scratching pads are still getting used every day for months. Every other toy, a day or so max.
Operation condor, operation gladio? Never heard of em.
Hitler particles off the charts
Liberals staunchly support unlimited freedom for the capitalist class, including their rule over everything. Its liberalism’s defining feature.
Reviews in OpenStreetMap, so that google maps can have a real competitor.
Its not FOSS, but I use to use foursquare for years because of how good it was at finding good restaurants / things to do in a new city. Now that its shut down, there’s no real alternative that comes close.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•The Gemini Protocol in 2026: growing, but still not setting the Internet aflame
13·2 months agoBrowsers are bigger than operating systems now. One of the points of gemini is to use a very restricted language and abilities, so that developers can create their own gemini browsers easily.
As it stands now, google exerts enormous control on the web because of how complicated it is to make a browser. Currently mozilla is google’s only competitor in browser engines.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•The Gemini Protocol in 2026: growing, but still not setting the Internet aflame
6·2 months agoWhile gemini is a great project, I personally think a better route would be to create a local or server service that converts and saves existing webpages to markdown, and local apps acting as markdown browsers utilizing it.
With that people could write simple browsers, as well as reduce spying and have static content viewable on all form factors.
Everything that’s not static content (like the fediverse) already can have dedicated apps.

Memes@lemmy.ml•Would you like Genocide or Flavored Genocide? Thats the choice you have in burgerland "democracy"
3·2 months agoPolling of turtle island indigenous peoples indicate that a good majority still prefer the term Indians. You can read Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz All the real indians died off and 20 other myths for the reasons.
Israel : “no”
US : “alrighty then, here’s 10 billion dollars”

275·2 months agoInteresting. Who forced the Biden administration to do this?

How about trusting most majority muslim countries themselves, which reject the genocide claim?

Highly disagree with this.
Even if you ignore the PRC’s primary materialist / world-historic acheivement over the last few decades (lifting more people out of poverty than any country in history), then you still have futuristic / sci-fi things like:
ELECTRICITY MIX (PERCENTAGE) ============================================================ 2010: [████████████████████████] 61% Coal | 39% Clean 2025: [████████████████] 32% Coal | 68% Clean 2030: [████████████] ~25% Coal (target) | 75% Clean (target) ============================================================- Rapid development of fusion power.
- Space missions like a planned moon landing possibly as soon as the 2030s, and planned mars landings for 2040s.
These are star trek / bucky fuller level ideas.
cool Japan: “How wholesome!”
cool China: “This site is run by PRC operatives.”

Yep, they were one of the pillars of operation gladio. The vatican bank was one of the principle money launderers for the CIA’s drug-running and terrorism operations. One of their assets, Marsinkus, even killed a pope in the 70s over threatening to expose it.
