I wrote one of those answers and yeah, no, I got that. I just thought this issue would be obvious, which makes it funny, but my delivery might have been too subtle.

This is generally how it’s done here in Germany, too. Seems like the state understood at some point that protests don’t actually do anything, and the more radical activity that might actually make a difference is generally only a pretty low amount of people - this part seems to be bigger in France, but far from big enough.

I’ve been using it pretty consistently for years, I achieve uptimes upwards of 60 days like this. The downside is that it takes kinda long to enter that state and there’s a chance that it fails to enter it (though it doesn’t crash, just goes to the screenlock), especially on my laptop - it refuses to go into hibernation unless I kill most webbrowser windows, especially stuff like YouTube.

And you do need a pretty large swap space; with those super long uptimes, even swap size = ram size isn’t always enough, because sometimes the swap space is actually used as swap and not just as hibernation image storage.

Really, hibernate as well? On my linux desktop and laptops, hibernate completely cuts the power. It’s definitely possible that this works differently for a handheld device, though, and I don’t think I even tried using hibernate on an ARM device.

Do we even know that for certain? Birds, which are directly decended from dinosaurs, are warm-blooded, and the large size of many dinosaurs calls into question whether their metabolism worked the same as a modern reptile’s - even crodociles are tiny compared to sauropods, t-rex, etc.

TBH now that tech fascism is a big thing IRL, I’ve kinda lost my taste for Cyberpunk. Hits a little too close to home, and it’s too obvious that many tech fascists are consuming Cyberpunk works as instructional, not cautionary tales.

Transhumanism is a big theme in Cyberpunk, it just doesn’t necessarily mean that Cyberpunk is correct about how common voluntary cybernetic augmentations, genetic engineering and the like are going to be.

I don’t think tornados are actually that uncommon. North America’s tornado alley is special, but even Germany has roof-destroying tornados pretty much every year - they just aren’t as big or as frequent.
