Some congressional Democrats say three large tax preparation firms sent “extraordinarily sensitive” information on tens of millions of taxpayers to Facebook parent company Meta over at least two years.

The three tax prep firms named are H&R Block, TaxAct, and TaxSlayer.
I’m not surprised at all, income data is really useful when doing targeted advertising. This kind of sale should be illegal of course, because our tax data should be sensitive in the same legal or medical data is, but I don’t think Meta’s going to see any consequences for this.
Yet another way that the privatization of tax preparation hurts us.
