I feel like the “if it works” part of the headline is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. The author’s experience has so far shown that it isn’t working (yet).

I feel bad for people who are losing access to extra features that Funimation had that Crunchyroll doesn’t. People often just point to piracy to replace things that are lost like this, but that is easier said than done when some of the things lost in this transition are things like bluray extras that aren’t being ripped/uploaded like the main piece of media is. Also, not everybody is able/willing to go down the piracy route and instead are just losing something they paid for.

I don’t see why Crunchyroll would not just access Funimations database to see who activated codes for downloaded libraries, email them and let them know they can have free access to those same digital shows on Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll was purchased by Funimation, and the latter was folded into the former, it makes sense that any licenses would automatically transfer across. There is no reason that a company needs to get permission from itself for that.

I hope they do this for Wakanim customers as well… Doubt it though. I never really bought digital stuff that you can’t download as files because I knew this kinda thing could happen. I do have codes that came with my Blurays, but they were useless to me because Funimation’s streaming service was not available in my country.

I like that they’re trying to do something about it though. I hestitate to say it’s commendable, because no way this happened if some people didn’t make a fuss about it and because it should’ve been DRM free downloads to begin with.
