  • The services are expected to connect to government systems rather than function solely as standalone chatbots. Residents will be able to use them to book doctor appointments, search for apartments, and get tax guidance. Small businesses will be able to calculate taxes and check whether they qualify for government support. Parents will receive recommendations for educational content.

    I doubt if any of this is a good idea. Put my trust in an LLM, and specifically for the more important aspects of my life? Not for me. But maybe people will. I have learned I’m bad at predicting the masses.

    The government plans to distribute up to 512 Nvidia B200 chips among the three consortia and help cover operating costs.

    That seems like a very low number for a population of 50’000’000 of which a fourth is currently paying for AI access. I mean it’s less than what would be in sixteen NVL36x2 racks. That’s like one aisle in a data center. And they want to split it over three groups… okay?

    I am beginning to wonder if this is a genuine attempt, or if they just want to pump the KOSPI, since Samsung and SK Hynix profit so much off of selling shovels (the shovels are memory in this case).




  • Density comes into it if we are measuring buoyancy. The weight of the displaced water is equal to the weight of the buoyant object, and the ratio of volume submerged vs above water should give a way to determine density, but I don’t have the precise method in my head right now.

    However assuming all you want is the volume, you simply need to fully submerge the object (by applying enough downward force if its density is too low), and the displaced volume is equal to the objects volume. The displaced water will have to flow to the top of the container, so by measuring the rise in water level and multiplying with the base area of your container you can get it easily.

    Just make sure you don’t accidentally also measure your hand if you’re pushing down the sphere.




  • I think that’s almost an inevitable mathematical difference between a two party system and multi party systems with n > 2.

    The hardened center of a party won’t abandon their guy at the head of the executive, so they form the floor for the approval rating. In a party ostensibly representing half the people, that hardened center will be large, and is apparently 35% large for the Republicans.

    In comparison France has 8 relevant parties, Germany has 6 relevant parties (or 5 if we combine the Union, which is mostly just separated into Bayern/not-Bayern but otherwise the same). So their hardened centers will also be much smaller.

    I don’t really have much hope for the US system, this concentration of power with constant internal stalemating will eventually kill them. But the incumbent parties don’t want to change the voting system. So there is no way out.







  • Well… that would be hard. Maintaining, upgrading and extending a corner of the Internet is my day-job.

    So I guess the minimum would be that some other international communications network takes over and Swiss tertiary education institutes would all like to be connected to that instead of the Internet.

    Then all the multiplayer games I host for my international friend group would also have to support this new stack of protocols, same for my communications channels, most of all chat apps and email. Then I could also move my personal use cases off the Internet.

    Then I could be done with it.

    The real question is why would we ever do that, it sounds insanely costly, and not that much is wrong with IPv4 and IPv6.
