Yeah. I have a free account I used for testing. I need to give it another go really. I liked it but it is still not a patch on Google Photos in terms of usability for viewing or finding photos.

We have different colours to help differentiate. For example if I have a dentist appointment I know it’s mine as it’s in my colour.

In regards to modifying each other’s calendar. If she has a car service booked in but then needs me to move it, I have the ability to modify her calendar to move it to another date.

I’d like to retain the same ability.

Do you have any downsides to Proton Calendar? So for your wife’s calendar have you added that into Proton and you can add/modify events?

I wanted to test sharing my calendar with my wife (we use Google which is currently how we share) but you have to have a paid account to share your proton calendar. I’m happy to pay but want to make sure it works before I do!

I purchased SimpleLogin before Proton purchased them. I have my own domain configured with all my aliases which all point to a proton email address which I do not give to anyone.

I purposely created my own domain just so I could be flexible in the future and move to another provider if needed.

I looked to see if I could get by replacing Photos with Drive in Proton. Whilst I can upload stuff. Videos greater than 100mb need to be downloaded to be watched. I guess because Google process videos to allow them to be streamed. Sadly a deal breaker for me :(

Damn. That Symphonium seems like a good app. I have Jellyfin but only a few albums to try it out. I used Finamp before which is basic and works ok but this app has way more features. The downside is it’s not free. I don’t mind paying for something but I notice my free trial will finish way before I get a chance to upload new media and give it a proper chance.

Same here. Many providers turned off 3G so I either see 4G or 2G. 2G is so slow it may as well not exist.

All my media is shared from a Raspberry Pi 4 with a HDD attached to it via NFS. Jellyfin runs as a container on a cheap Chinese mini pc I got off AliExpress. I’ve not had any issues over the network. It even transcodes on a share of the Pi as my SSD that has Jellyfin on is too small for larger movies.

I used Plex for a long time and was very tempted by their lifetime plan. I tried Jellyfin but at the time it just wasn’t a patch on Plex. I continued with Plex but always had that itch to get away from closed source. I eventually tried Jellyfin again and whilst it’s definitely not as feature rich as Plex, it does what I need from it which is a central store of media that any TV in my house can use. I’ve even given a few friends a login so they can watch content.

I do love that it’s completely self hosted. I run it behind Caddy so it has a Let’s Encrypt certificate. All run in a Docker container with the media from an NFS share from a Pi4 with an external HDD.

That said, I still have Plex running as I have one Samsung TV and there’s no official Jellyfin client for it. Yes there’s some long winded developer way to get one on but I just can’t be bothered.
