more like, you need to hit a goal at the bottom of a funnel-shaped pit, but you’re in a car driving in circles on the walls of the funnel at 100mph, and anything going 150 mph shoots out of the top of the funnel. aim isn’t the problem, the shape of the funnel will take care of that. the issue is to get to the bottom you have to kick the ball backward hard enough to cancel out the speed of the car, i.e. 100mph, whereas to launch out of the pit, you only have to kick the ball forward at 50mph. if you kick backwards at 50mph, the ball will just keep circling the pit at 50mph; it might eventually reach the bottom but it will take a long time

  • what’s even crazier to think about is that there were likely several thousands of years where our ancestors were about as cognitively evolved as we are now, with language and society and culture, and simultaneously living alongside other now-extinct hominin species, like neanderthals and denisovans, who were likely similarly cognitively capable. makes me wonder if stories were still have from mythology about elves or dwarves or fae are cultural remnants of a time when we actually did live alongside not-quite-human sapient creatures

  • for the original clip that the images come from, you don’t really need any context other than what’s shown here in order to get the point of this particular meme: an explicit statement that you are not taking a stance on a particular issue is itself an explicit stance on that issue

but to give the context that’s not really needed, it’s a game show, and the objective of this particular part of the episode is “don’t acknowledge Ron Perlman,” but the twist is some players don’t know the objectives, and just walk into the room and see Ron Perlman with no instruction given
