jeffw@lemmy.worldMto Reddit@lemmy.world•There is so much obvious astroturfing on reddit.7·13 days agoThe problem is, unlike most people realize, astroturfing is rarely sourced from shill accounts like it used to be. Nor are high-karma accounts being purchased.
The issue is bots and shill accounts manipulate vote counts of posts/comments with certain positions. So, you don’t tell the difference, unless you find a way to track who is voting on Reddit content.

Voters were then turned away from polls bc they ran out of ballots11·24 days agoSorry, you’re now deliberately spreading misinformation. I really tried to give you more chances.
If hardly anybody knew, how did turnout exceed expectations within 2 hours?
You’re also blatantly ignoring the other posts on that sub to push a false narrative.
jeffw@lemmy.worldMto Reddit@lemmy.world•Morning of rare local election, information about candidates couldn't be posted to my local subreddit. Voters were then turned away from polls bc they ran out of ballots12·24 days agoYou made a misleading post. I corrected the record with a simple explanation. Sorry that spam isn’t allowed on Reddit or Lemmy. When 50 people post the same thing, 49 are going to get removed every single time.

jeffw@lemmy.worldMto Reddit@lemmy.world•Morning of rare local election, information about candidates couldn't be posted to my local subreddit. Voters were then turned away from polls bc they ran out of ballots26·24 days agoBecause the mod deleted your first post and you were spamming.
For the record, I was pretty close to deleting this post for spam. Insulting people isn’t convincing me to leave it up
jeffw@lemmy.worldMto Reddit@lemmy.world•Morning of rare local election, information about candidates couldn't be posted to my local subreddit. And no, I’m not going to scroll back through the subreddit when you are capable of that.
When there’s already a top post reminding people to vote, mods should remove other posts saying the same thing. That’s called spam.

Edit: actually, posts announcing the election are no longer on the first page, since they are 2 days old. Multiple posts about the ballots running out and what to do are on the front page.

There’s also 1 million more people than in 1989 and (I think?) a larger portion of NYCers are registered dems now. So that’s not actually that good. We should break turnout records every year if our population grows.
