I liked the story, but I can’t stand these movies that are 100% green screened and seem to take place in a perpetual dust storm.

You think Fury Road was primarily green screened?

The majority of what was done was compositing. The stunts, props, etc. were real. The crashing war rig was real, for example.

It’s one of the things I thinks makes Furiosa worse - much less practical.

If it makes you feel any better he also strikes me as the panicky stupid type, y’know the type that thinks they’re super smart cool and collected but collapse like soaked cardboard when a car backfires. Wait no that actually probably makes it worse on a moment to moment basis, upside is whatever plans he does have probably would die pretty violently on first contact.

That’s a very cruel way to explain what having a blood boy is. They don’t think that. They just think it will keep them young and hot long enough for them to see technology advance to a more sophisticated solution.

It’s not as bad as you think. Its just the young man a rich older man pays to live a cloistered life and occasionally give blood to the older man in the belief that it will slow or reverse aging.

They don’t bathe in it or anything.

I hear you, but the best way to learn about this is by watching Silicone Valley. While depressing facts like the existence of blood boys are revealed, the show is net worth it.

I’m reminded of one of Roy Cohn’s monologues in Angels in America.

Your problem is that you are hung up on words, on labels: “gay”, “homosexual”, “lesbian.” You think they tell you who a person sleeps with, but they don’t tell you that. Like all labels, they refer to one thing and one thing only: Where does a person so identified fit in the food chain? In the pecking order. Not ideology or sexual taste, but something much simpler: clout. Who owes me favors. Not who I fuck or who fucks me, but who will pick up the phone when I call. To someone who doesn’t understand this, homosexual is what I am because I sleep with men, but this is wrong. Homosexuals are not men who sleep with other men. Homosexuals are men who, in 15 years of trying, can’t get a pissant anti-discrimination bill through City Council. They are men who know nobody, and who nobody knows.

The real Roy Cohen didn’t consider himself gay, he just liked to sexually dominate young blond men. That was a sign of his masculinity.

It should be noted that when he mentored Donald Trump and Roger Stone, they were both young blonde men.

Angels in America is a very good play that, I think, has only gotten better over time.

HBO produced it as a TV miniseries with Al Pacino playing Roy Cohn back in 2003. There’s also a 2017 revival with Nathan Lane in the role. Either are 100% worth checking out.

My guess is that the hate for trans people is giving people like Thiel an opportunity to “punch down” on a minority that is even more hated by the right.

Why would they not? It is tradition that the left wing is split by minor differences in ideology while the right wing are united by hate regardless how contradictory otherwise.

He is a useful idiot and ultra wealthy and ultra powerful and ultra influential and ultra useful on top of being an ultra idiot. They don’t have to embrace him, only let him do his thing until he is no longer useful. Fascism must always have enemies and when they are without the external ones they will turn on each other.

I’ve been wondering the same thing, and came to a conclusion that he’s a white christian nationalist above all else. Christian nationalists love a nazi, identity politics only matter when it’s not “one of us”. Moreover, he doesn’t promote gay or trans rights, because he’s above all that could technically hinder him if he wasn’t megarich. He doesn’t care, because it doesn’t affect him. He’s already won.

unfortunately its common with rich people, hot guy/girls dates wealthy billionaire to live a lavish lifestyle, people are smitten by rich people all the time, and dont realize they are holding power over them with thier wealth, not surprised the wealthy power imbalance is noticed too late for the poor person in the relationship.

Abusers in positions of power use this as a means of protecting themselves. By making their victims engage in acts of abuse against others they force them into a catch-22 if they try to expose them. They achieve ultimate victory over the victim by making them adopt the ideology of their abuser, trapping them in a hierarchy within which they will do anything to maintain their position. By drawing you into their system of abuse they not only make you afraid to expose them, but rob you of your desire to do so.

You know I wonder if the elections in florida are rigged so none of the creepy billionaires who live there can be investigated/prosecuted. Somebody should run there on reopening suspicious death cases.
