Google who?
Allow folks to use a different authentication app for Google services then.
Huh? I’ve been using an open source authenticator for ages for my google account. https://github.com/stratumauth/app
I think that’s possible already? I use Aegis for my google account authentifications.
I use Aegis for everything but Google. Perhaps Google is just burying the fact that you can do this.
I use Aegis for everything, including Google.
Yes you’re right, it’s buried. You have to choose the Google Authenticator option but they don’t say it also works with other authenticator apps.
I’ve never found a single place that tells you that Google Authenticator works with other authenticator apps. They always just say Google Authenticator. And I’ve learned that Google Authenticator is the equivalent of Kleenex, which is a brand of tissue. It doesn’t matter that it’s a branded tissue. A tissue is a tissue. When I see Google Authenticator anywhere now, I immediately know that it means TOTP application.
I’ve been using Keepass-XC as a 2fa using the same algorithm as Google Authenticator for years (including my Google logins); It’s definitely doable already, though not integrated as seamlessly as other password managers on Android.
Did I miss some context?
That’s been possible for years now…
