No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Natalists of America, how do you expect the adults of tomorrow to solve world issues if they have to deal with gun violence?English
0·26 days agoI’m not a natalist, but let’s be real: the number if deaths caused by gun violence miniscule relative to the entire population. That said, 6 out of every 100000 kids die of firearm injuries and is the leading cause of death in children. Gun control is something that need to be improved in the country for sure. I’m just not sure it is a significant threat to “Clara.” A much bigger threat, imo, is the state of education and reliability of information today.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What do you think of people who CONSTANTLY talk about religion?English
2·1 month agoOK, but being a victim doesn’t make you immune to this categorization. A victim of sexual abuse who rapes someone is still a rapist. Someone who was persecuted for their race who then persecutes others for their race is still a racist. Victims don’t get a “Get Out of Jail” card.

Programming@programming.dev•Software engineers should be a little bit cynicalEnglish
0·1 month agoI don’t think engineers need encouragement to be cynical. More often engineers need to lighten up.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How many of you are actually fine with living in USA or are you planning on moving some where else?English
10·1 month agoNot exactly easy to immigrate to, as you can see from the comment about CRS scores

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How many of you are actually fine with living in USA or are you planning on moving some where else?English
14·1 month agoThis question is asked as if there is an obvious destination. Where do I move? Europe/UK isn’t exactly killing it lately, so that’s out. That leaves Australia and NZ for English-speajing countries, but I know nothing about them. I could move to Japan since I know some Japanese, but the Japanese are not well-known to be accepting of foreigners. The PM is literally trying to limit immigration. So where should I be moving as an American?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What mediocre game, show, or movie has an incredible soundtrack?English
41·2 months agoI personally love Killer7, but I won’t pretend that most people would enjoy it. However the soundtrack is great.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you automated 95% of your job, but still had to report to an office/cubicle, what would you do with your (40hrs)time?English
1·2 months agoImplement a CPU, then a GPU, then start designing weirder, domain-specific architectures.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What fictional character do you wish was real?English
20·3 months agoSam Raimi’s version of Spider-Man. He’s an agent of the common man, and obviously someone with super powers would be amazing. However he isn’t so powerful that he couldn’t be subdued if he were to become evil. The only problem is I don’t live in NYC…

Linux@lemmy.ml•my reason why you should use KDE+Krohnkite instead of WMsEnglish
261·3 months agoBiggest con of KDE + Krohnkite (to me) is no text-based config. I really have no desire to pour through the GUI to set up all my keybinds. I’ve tried this setup before, and honestly I mostly like it. However anytime I want to change something I just hate having to click through a menu with my mouse. The search bar helps, but often you’ll spend a lot of time guessing what the devs decided to name a setting. I went back to Sway and have no regrets. Though I’ll admit I wish there was something that was basically Sway with the benefits you mentioned here.

8·4 months agoMiddle-class white person grows up to do middle-class white people things. PhD portion of the story seemed promising but fell short of expectations. At least the lead couple is kind of funny. 2/5 stars

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Americans, what do typically have for breakfast?English
7·4 months agoWhole wheat toast topped with peanut butter, sorghum syrup, and bananas. The toast has fiber and the peanut butter has protein. The bananas and the tiniest drop of sorghum add enough sweetness to round out the flabor but contain less added sugar than most cereal.

News@lemmy.world•Gov. JB Pritzker points to Trump inconsistencies in deployment of National Guard to ChicagoEnglish
46·4 months agoPritzker has been seen around Chicago throughout this whole debacle, specifically at protests. Seems like he’s doing a little more than chilling at his office. Even when he said “you have to go through me” he was at a protest. I’m pretty anti-billionare, but at least this elected official is not cowering from the fascists.
