New research using a decommissioned section of the beam pipe from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN has brought scientists closer than ever before to test whether magnetic monopoles exist.
IIRC he wrote his equations assuming that magnetic monopoles are impossible because we’ve never found one. There are a lot of things that would be more symmetric if they existed, though.
Maxwell’s equations have already been rewritten into the Dirac equation. Magnetic monopoles are quantum weird and would not show up in undergrad textbooks regardless

They “rewrite” them every year anyway so might as well get some new science in there
