I honestly do not mind it one but. I quite like the interface. It’s minimal but there are some bugs to it which is to be expected. I really do like the overall design of it though. There isn’t too much going on. It’s like old Reddit which I am a big fan of
Yeah, I’m enjoying it outside of the small bugs. They’re not breaking the platform so I can live with them until they’re smoothed out. But the smaller communities are kind of a nice change of pace to be honest, it’s definitely like old Reddit before it got a case of the capitalisms. Terminal case, unfortunately.
But with the decentralized nature of it, we don’t have to worry about that happening again!
It’s ok. Navigating takes some getting used to and the lower content and engagement so far is a bummer. Hopefully it will take off though. A mobile app at some point would be nice.
There is Jerboa for Lemmy if you want to use an app.
Testing a reply from that app!
Your test was successful.
If on android, there’s Jerboa for an app. Kbin is working on an app iirc. It’s all open source too, so if it really picks up there will probably be a few others that pop up eventually.
KBin is also a PWA so pretty “app-like” already.
I can’t get kbin to “install” on my phone as a pwa. When I click “add to home screen” I just get a blurry icon and the navbar at the top of the page is still there. Am I missing something? Lemmys app and higher user count is what got me to settle on it instead of kbin but if I could get the pwa working I might give kbin a fairer shot.
That’s really odd! It sounds like you’re doing things right. You might try another browser? PWAs live in the mobile browser so sometimes that can help.
I appreciate the suggestion, but I thought the same thing and tried switching from Firefox to Chrome and got the same problem. Even updated both browsers. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It took a solid couple days to wrap my head around how things work, where posts are coming from and how to find communities I’m interested in. I’m nervous that’s going to be just enough of a barrier that folks will say forget it when trying it out.
Otherwise it’s a refreshing take. Really wish there was an iOS app you could find in the App Store. All I find is mastodon apps.
I like Lemmy a lot! I’m gonna stick around :)
I really like the new style of interactions, even though I do currently miss the hundreds of thousands of funny/dumb comments some posts had (hoping that will happen eventually though)
It works, at least. The only issue I’m seeing is that if I try to follow ‘sublemmies’ (or whatever the Lemmy equivalent for a subreddit is called) from certain other federated servers, they just sit in ‘subscribe pending’. A fediverse that creates a lot of friction when spreading out beyond your local instance is a bit of a bummer.
I’m already worried about defederations happening and mods of federations getting too big headed on blocking communities.
I’m looking it, though I haven’t found much good content yet. Gotta do a serious community search.
Sidenote: anyone know if I can replicate Reddit’s “hide post after upvoting” behavior?
I’m still getting used to this and there’s not much activity yet, but I’ll stick with it. Reddit isn’t worth it, so I’m happy there’s a chance for an alternative.

Involve more work but this kind of change is for the best. Freedom from the tyranny of corporate greed!
Is this the part where we seize the means of production and eat the rich? Because I’m here for it.
Nah, we’re just seizing a little corner where the bosses mostly leave us alone.
Okay but if we eat the rich, I’m here for it
In case anyone was wondering, I’m pro eating the rich btw.
Creating sublemmies hangs forever it seems. I was able to create one on day one of the reckoning, but not anymore.
Also, I thought Lemmy was broken but for whatever reason it performs badly in Firefox but Chrome works okay. I don’t like this because I hate Chrome/Google but it isn’t clear what the issue is in Firefox. I have NoScript, Ublock, etc. there so likely plugins
Think I’m still trying to get my head around it all, such as trying to join new communities. Trying to take my time to read through guides and such, but so far it’s been good!
It is like wild west here and I like it!
Other than the random communist extremists, I like it, but I hope this place doesnt turn into the next Voat as I have a strong feeling it will.
How do I know if this instance is good? I just joined Lemmy.world because it was the first in the discovery page, but I’m not sure if this is an extremist server or not
I’m not sure either but it seems mostly fine other than the vocal minority. I assume if this instance gets a lot of people from reddit they will be squashed out but time will tell.
Voat people will have their own instances and their own communities. Which you don’t have to participate in.
That doesnt prevent them people from making alt accounts. On reddit I had like 6, with the multiple instances here I imagine thats way more common.
So? What prevented them from making alt accounts on reddit and other corporate media?
Moderation, right?
They didn’t? I said that in my comment I had 6 accounts. With the federated instances its way more likely for people to have multiple accounts. I already have 2 and I have been here 2 days.
Right my point is, why do you care if they make alt accounts? It’s the behavior that’s moderated.
my point is these guys are extremists and all they care about is forcing their viewpoint and belifes on others and find joy in when it makes them mad, thats how these people work. So if this site is full of them then the site is shit.
I think that’s the thing you’re not getting. This isn’t a site. It’s a federation of independent networks, each with their own rules.
Have you seen any of that around? I haven’t.
That’s usually my fear with the fediverse. Whenever I step on mastodon.social, 2/3 of the front page is ultra left memes and talking point. I mostly want to talk tech and sport, not read about culture wars. It’s been hard to escape the crazy politics, and so far lemmy.world seems to have a lot of communities focused on other topics which is very welcome
