I use LMS and it is fantastic. However not knowing your setup in detail, I cannot help you more.
I looked through my extensions and I cannot see a ‘spotcast bridge’ option, but doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. You’d have to look about, maybe github.
Finally, like you have ‘snapclient’ on the RPi’s you can/could change them to ‘chrome clients’ (different project but same deal as the snapclient). When checking, it seems the solutions that exist are pretty out of date, and there are comments that google has locked down on the ‘chromecast api’ that check the client is legit or not, through signed certificates. So everything is fine if you have legit chromecasts, but it might not be so successful with an emulated cc, such as VLC client or omxplayer.
More finally though, Logitech Media Server, is designed to be that - the central server of your music. Ideally you would have all your music locally, rather than on other services. So it probably isn’t what you are looking for.
Good FOSS software and reliable service providers? Etc.
Wow much detail. You’re gonna get so much help.
Selfhost Bitwarden. Has apps for everything, browser extensions and can be accessed via webpage as well.
I’ve not seen them, but I would imagine they are for office use, rather than home use. You would run into the same problem low volume inkjet users always run into, the ink dries out or clogs up the jets.
Toner has no such problem, and you can print 3000 pages regardless of if it takes 3 months or 3 years.
I didn’t read the article but the straight reason is this: Printer companies adopted the “blades and razor” business model. The model was invented by Gillette, and if any of you here shave, you already know how it works.
Printer Companies did the same thing, sell a cheap inkjet at a loss (last Epson I bought was $49, a miniscule amount of ink and it had a scanner built in!!)
Now I offer you a challenge! (not really, you’ll already know the answer if you have an inkjet and had to buy original refills).
A Brother MFC-L3760CDW is a colour laser printer/scanner/photo copier/fax/full duplex. It comes with (3 colours and black) enough toner for 3000 colour pages at purchase for a retail price $499.00
How much do you think it would cost you to get a inkjet printer, and enough ink to print 3000 colour pages? Also consider having a full duplex printer/photo copier/scanner/fax at your disposal.
I prefer cooking on gas (I’m old! so what!), yes I know induction has become a lot better lately. But I renovated my kitchen (myself) about 5 years ago, so nothing is changing in there. My BBQ will also stay gas, but I might switch back to LPG bottles from the servo instead of natural gas.
My gas hot water is where the most of that bill comes from (our country has limited “fees” unlike other countries, and they have to detail all of them, and they get railed if they are bullshit). I am already getting quotes for instant on, electric hot water.
For 6 months of the year my Solar Panels absolutely rock, providing 30A 240V during the day, which means my entire home is grid free powered, even with my reverse cycle AC on full blast during Australia’s hottest times.
Solar Panels literally dropped my monthly electricity bill from $600+ per month, to $250 per month (for 6 months) the other 6 months are not so dramatic, but still they help.
We are sick of the arseholes that are running the power companies, and we are sick of the outrageous prices they are charging for electricity.
Simple as that.
10 years ago, my gas bill was $80 a month. Today (and nothing has changed) it is almost $300 a month. Same shit has happened with Electricity and water. They are fucking scum.
They can go fuck themselves. If there was a free version of gas like electricity, I would install it in an instant. (I only use gas for kitchen hob, my BBQ outside - both of which get fuck all use, and my hot water which only really gets used when I wash my balls in the morning.) 300% price hike in 10 years… They can all suck my balls,
So reading all the comments here:
X is far Right, conservatives - bad.
Lemmy is far Left, liberal - good.
You both sound as bad as each other.
It was only a few weeks ago (maybe 4). Systems are all kept up to date with ansible. Most are Debian but there are few Ubuntu. The two that failed were both Debian.
Granted both that failed have high [virtual] disk usage compared to the other VM’s. I cannot remember the failure now, but lots of searching confirmed that it was likely unrecoverable (they could boot, but only into read only). None of the btrfs-check “dangerous” commands could recover it, spitting out tons of errors about mismatching somethings (again, forgotten the error).
My setup is different to yours but not totally different. I run ESXi 8, and I started to use BTRFS on some of my VM’s.
I had a power failure, that was longer than the UPS could handle. Most of the system shutdown safely, a few VM’s did not. All of the EXT4 VM’s were easily recovered (including another one that was XFS). TWO of the BTRFS systems crashed into a non recoverable state.
Nothing I could do to fix them, they were just toast. I had no choice but to recover using backups. This made me highly aware that BTRFS is still not a reliable FS.
I am migrating everything from BTRFS to something more stable and reliable like EXT4. It’s simply not worth the headache.
Opera GX has promised to keep MV2 in their code. So I’ll just keep using that until I see something different. The other thing is that Opera GX has built in ad-blocker which is pretty much on par with third parties.
Firefox is not the “great browser” you think it is. It has had its fair share of fuckups and failures over the years, like laxed security certificate updates leaving users in limbo.
Google didn’t come and just out do Firefox. It was the other way around, firefox fucked themselves with poor management and failure after failure, and people left. Chrome was the new boy in town, and that is why firefox is where it is today.
Also, I would never use firefox, if I do need an alternative browser renderer, I use WATERFOX which is far more privacy compliant than firefix ever has been.
Well apparently you don’t understand it either. My point is that there are opposing weather patterns that occur over larger periods you are unaware of.
It’s only you grasping to at insults to have your cringe whinge because someone doesn’t believe in your opinion.

Get bent.
You are also sharing disinformation as well. You say climate change, but you do not define it.
Many people are aware of El Nino / La Nina and that they cycle roughly 7 years. What most people don’t know, is that there are cycles that occur every 25 years, and more that are even longer than that.
Now consider when those cycles happen to coincide, there is an increased change until those cycles move back out of sync.
Yes there is climate change, but a large majority of it is out of yours or anyone else’s control.
To be fair, X didn’t “miss the deadline”.
They never gave a shit in the first place.
Quantum Computing is still climbing the slope from TT to the Peak of Inflated Expectations. There is still little to no major hype, as its still in “R&D/testing” it is slow, it is expensive (Very) limited due to all the surrounding tech required to make it work like cooling, containment etc…
Compare this to AI.
AI is at and heading down from the Peak towards the Trough of Disillusionment. It was easy (relatively) to implement, easy to evolve as how nVidia did, simply throw more silicon at it. The Hype was easy to generate because even while totally misinformed, media and other people out there thought they could easily sell it. Even though most of what they claimed was turd, it sounded amazing and a game changer even in the early stages, and businesses lapped it up. Now they are feeling the pain, and seeing that there are still major hurdles to get past.
Software as a Suspension.

If you must use Windows, download it legitimately from MS website. Use RUFUS to burn the ISO image to a USB. Remove the restrictions you hate.
Dual boot a Linux variant, and move over apps at your leisure, until you are no longer Win OS dependent.
