At this point it’s the the cons of every decision and none of the pros it used to have 😓 Like, you’re still gonna run into a shitton of sexism and racism because they’ll never get banned as long as they don’t say an actual slur… but also you can get auto-banned by AI for making a sarcastic joke. It’s gotten harder to hold onto a community and moderate it effectively, but there’s still a ton of mod squatters ruining what used to be decent communities. And so on.

I’ve heard a lot of cooing over the old days of reddit, but the old days of reddit also involved being a free speech absolutist enclave where r/Incel and r/creepshots festered for years. I think it got better in the middle, and that’s when I joined and had a lot of fun for a while… But then Ellen Pao got ejected on a wave of sexist abuse and, well, I guess my point is that it was always kinda rotten so it was inevitable for it to go downhill like this.

For me, the toxicity is a big push off of reddit. It’s not like I never encounter obnoxiousness here, but it’s not nearly as bad.

It’s absolutely worth requesting your data to be deleted regardless of where you live by claiming to live in California. I always provide the address of a post office in Cali as my address when requesting deletion.

I do think it’s possible that some of them won’t delete your data upon request, failing to comply with the law, but I also think a lot of people on the internet are unduly influenced by doomers who want you to feel powerless and do nothing.

The article specifically says slow growth of logged in US users is the reason that the stock fell, not because of lack of opportunities to monetize content. Revenue is up year over year. They just give a different reason for users turning away.

Nothing in the article about user experience at all, maybe I’m crazy for thinking that’s a big part of the problem.

I’m not really sure what you mean. You think it’s somehow hypocritical to like porn and dislike running into “women use makeup to LIE TO MEN” memes every day? I’m afraid I don’t see the contradiction. It kinda seems like you just have a problem with women who express sexuality and think we should accept poor treatment.

I’m going to be honest, I’m a little perplexed by the demands for evidence. I didn’t really ask to debate wether or not my experiences are real, I asked for some advice. The typical thing to do if you’re unfamiliar with the topic at hand and therefore can’t offer any advice when asked would be to not offer any. I don’t know why people are treating it like a challenge and it’s my job to convince you, but I have some guesses, like, for example, that a lot of you aren’t ready to accept criticism of something you don’t like, or that some of you have some internal work to do that you’re not ready for.

Other commentors here know exactly what I’m talking about without demanding proof. It’s not just me. I’m sorry if I misjudged you and you’re actually just very interested in learning more about me, but you don’t come off like that at all. You come off like you’re prepared to dismiss any examples I tried to show you anyway.

That’s a good way to look at it, every time someone tells you about discrimination, you should ask them how they brought it upon themselves
