XiELEd@piefed.socialto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Jesus hates American "Christians"English1·2 days agoYou know how the Romans collected taxes in there less “Roman” providences?
Well that would certainly explain why the tax collectors get such a bad rap in the Gospels.
Pretty sure it’s a bit related… And there’s nothing wrong with learning a bit more about history
XiELEd@piefed.socialto Technology@lemmy.world•Meta is removing its Messenger apps for Windows and macOSEnglish4·2 days agoStudents, especially in the Philippines and some 3rd world countries. You can basically use Messenger and Facebook without data, just without images or video. For the sake of accessibility schools tend to use these services.

XiELEd@piefed.socialto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's the best way to deal with a genuinely malicious troll who constantly says the evidence against him is slander when it's not?English0·2 days agoMan these people in the comment section are lucky to think that when you simply just ignore someone, the harassment ends.
Using thorn is pretty innocuous (even though it’s mostly used incorrectly), pretty sure I saw you or at least one of you. The fact people will downvote thoughtful responses just because the way it was delivered annoys them shows a lot about humanity. And especially when people hunt down your comments to downvote them, even when there’s no thorn at all. People tend to do more annoying stuff that is way more inconvenient than using thorn, and I’m talking about certain internet etiquette practices.
XiELEd@piefed.socialto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Fediverse alternative to Facebook is what's really missingEnglish2·4 days agoI’m sorry for blowing up on you. It’s just that I feel powerless and I feel like it’s hard to change anything if I do things more directly. I’ve been trying to get people involved but it’s so hard to get the momentum going that it tends to fizzle out (kinda like c/Philippines). I really wanted free internet to be a thing here in my country (not only that, we pay more for lower quality internet cmp to other countries due to underdeveloped infrastructure) so that it would break the monopoly of facebook but I’m not sure if they’re doing their promise. I’m just used to my actions not having an impact unless it was supported by some external circumstance. Like how Lemmy became popular because of an external event.
XiELEd@piefed.socialto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Fediverse alternative to Facebook is what's really missingEnglish5·4 days agoApathetic attitude? Not everyone has the privilege of having ever been under an authority figure who actually cares about their job. My university can’t even bother to fix their drainage system, my city has had its reputation dragged in the mud on national TV for its shitty (literally) garbage collection system (btw, I still see NOTHING came out from the publicity), even though people have been complaining about these for months. Do you seriously think they’ll take my opinion seriously? If I try to rally people to my cause, which would most likely be on Facebook, people would just snarkily say I’m overreacting and that I’m a hypocrite for using Facebook (which is the only way I could reach them in the first place). Even when I complained about the drainage system I was being name-called and insulted by someone who thought that making any demands to a school as a student was being entitled and what did I get out of it? Nothing! Do you think the geriatrics at the upper level even care about privacy or information? They still admire Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg goddammit! Have you ever had to really fight for a cause? Because you are painting an unrealistic landscape that I’ve never been able to see my entire life.
XiELEd@piefed.socialto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Fediverse alternative to Facebook is what's really missingEnglish31·4 days agoIt is not feasible unfortunately, and if I were to put that as a complaint, I would most likely be called unhinged, out-of-touch, or trying to discard a perfectly usable system. We can only raise questions and influence people as of now. Besides, the reason why Messenger is popular is because of the freebasics service which allows people to use Messenger for free.

XiELEd@piefed.socialto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Fediverse alternative to Facebook is what's really missingEnglish81·4 days agoI’m pretty much forced to use Facebook and Messenger because of school. Some teachers will grade you only if you upload your work and tag them on Facebook, sometimes you have to repost or like videos because your project is a video and there’s a group competition based on those metrics. Messenger is the default mode of communication between students and teachers, as well as a way to contact people for your graded surveys.
XiELEd@piefed.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which instance do you recommend nowadays?English5·4 days agoThe ones most important to me are:
tagging features, tagging hotmaps for communities, search by tag, comments from crossposts is combined to the viewer (there’s a divider to show which community),
when someone posts from a certain instance like beehaw you get a reminder about their community standards, user flairs
less resources needed to load stuff (great for third-worlders like me), post and comment subscriptions, feeds (something similar to a multireddit)
topic categories (do note that topic ≠ community) like Regional > Asia > Philippines in which each topic category shows all posts made by communities in the category. For example if you are in Topic: Regional you get posts from all regional communities, in Topic: Asia you get posts from all communities based on Asia.

Now it seems well I can only think of three?English0·4 days agoNot Vegan, But: Probably needs a rest day in between workout days, adequate sleep or a calorie surplus. If he’s up for it, he should get his nutrient levels checked. There’s also this problem where people on the internet set unrealistic expectations of how fast your gains should be.
XiELEd@piefed.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which instance do you recommend nowadays?English5·4 days agoYeah, I just made the switch to piefed some days ago. Isn’t there a saying don’t put all your eggs in one basket? My first accounts were on kbin and fmhy.ml, but they’re not around anymore. I made the switch to lemmy.world, then learned about piefed and since I like the features it had I made the switch to it.
XiELEd@piefed.socialto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•My 16 year old relative is being stalked by a very obsessive 26 year old man online who said he uploaded her pics to a porn site and keeps trying to mass-report her to get her banned. What can she do?English0·4 days agoWhere is your reading comprehension? Was it underdeveloped because of your country’s education system? Not once was it mentioned that she posted photos of her naked. And I am surprised you somehow got on the fediverse of all places because anyone who has been around on the internet for long enough knows this PSA from when deepfakes were starting to become a thing about how people would take photos of children on restaurants and post them on porn sites whose target audiences are pedos.
XiELEd@piefed.socialto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why are children always portrayed as the epitome of "innocence", when a lot of kids are evil af and bully their peers, and name-calling runs rampant in schools?English0·4 days agoThere’s being neurodivergent too. My mom said I was a hothead when I was a young kid. I have ADHD btw.
XiELEd@piefed.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you recommend Lemmy to others, and if so, what kind of content or communities make it worth it?English4·5 days agoThe fediverse in general is like the Wild West of the internet.
XiELEd@piefed.socialto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Building the fediverse is an investment in us and the open web.English2·5 days agoNot on Voyager. It displays as 2 years ago for me.
XiELEd@piefed.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you recommend Lemmy to others, and if so, what kind of content or communities make it worth it?English6·5 days agoJeez. I knew they were tankies but I didn’t know that they were deliberately leveraging their instance to put other instances at a disadvantage. I recently moved to piefed for an unrelated reason after a discussion about kbin, this place was said to have a faster rate of development.
