Dragon Rider (drag)

Drag rides dragons and also “rides” dragons. drag/dragself person-independent pronouns. That means drag’s pronouns are the same in first, second, and third person.

  • Hm. Drag thought the thesis was presented clearly in the last line. “Lemmy users are upset because they hate trans people”. Cunk starts off by agreeing with the dominant Lemmy view that the site is full of trolls, and then flips the script by telling the truth. Cunk starts off on the reader’s level, sharing their false assumptions, and then unexpectedly tells a truth the reader doesn’t know. That’s how drag understands effective communication to work, start from the reader’s knowledge and then tell them something they don’t know. Perhaps there are nuances to the format of communication that drag doesn’t understand.

  • All drag’s friends on Discord understood the joke on their first read. Drag isn’t sure where the misunderstanding is. We’re currently in a voice call trying to figure out why anyone doesn’t understand this one. Drag’s friend suggested maybe you don’t think Lemmy is full of transphobes, but drag thinks you do, since you’ve said Lemmy is very misogynistic, and those two things go together. Maybe you didn’t understand that Cunk is supposed to be wrong about the trolls actually existing but right about what the problem the users have is?

Thanks, but drag had no intention of starting any drama. Drag was doing some observational comedy. Seinfeld type stuff. Working drag’s daily experiences into a joke. Drag thought the meme was clever and would be well-received. Drag wasn’t expecting people to go bringing a whole lot of drama into the thread.

Most don’t, but there’s a very vocal minority who do. The lady in the picture is Philomena Cunk, a well meaning reporter with a head full of bricks. She’s a satirical character who makes fun of news media, pop culture, and political viewpoints. You shouldn’t take anything she says entirely seriously. The meme only exists to make the point that people who think pretending to be trans is an effective troll hate trans people. Here’s another example of the format which drag made a few hours ago:
