Surprisingly not as bad as I thought it would be, this is on a 250/100 connection
Unfortunately content on Lemmy is very hit or miss, I actually upgraded the connection from 50mbps upload because the first like 1-2 hours that the content is uploaded it gets absolutely hammered then it slowly drops off till after 12 hours it’s just a slow trickle
And even within that first 1-2 hours, if you click play you might get a full speed upload but then suddenly 6 people might all click play at once and saturate the link
But given that I’m uploading terabytes and it’s not costing my server admins any cash I think it’s ok and I’d rather not sign up to cloudflare
If bunny cdn offers a basic free tier then maybe

1·6 days agoFor most people seeing robots even move like this at all is considered crazy
Most people are also thinking if they have reached this point, where will they be at in 5 - 10 years

1·8 days agoI’ve always said do the best you can to move away from big tech, this person saying:
If there’s a thriving secondhand market, more people can sell them and buy flagships.
If we’re down to worrying about the health of the secondhand market I think we’d be in an amazing place, but we’re not, every little bit helps and I think grabbing a second hand phone and installing graphene on it is a great idea
I’ve also heard they’re teaming up with Motorola:
wth https://aussie.zone/post/34604587 why doesn’t it play on mobile??
edit: FFmpeg tags HEVC streams in MP4 as hev1 by default, Apple only supports hvc1 for some reason.
You need to add -tag:v hvc1 to your command line.
In my case ffmpeg -i ok.mp4 -c:v libx265 -tag:v hvc1 -c:a aac -movflags +faststart output.mp4
funnily enough I discussed with my mate Mistral Le Chat about JXL vs AVIF and was like, why use AVIF over JXL, and it was like JXL is better but AVIF has more support, but WebP has even more support than both of them and decent compression

So I ended up going with webp for my self hosted vibe coded image host
Basically I’m now just waiting for everyone to catch up so I can go to JXL over WebP
I use it because it compresses better and looks just as good, why use space when I can not use space?
I tried to compress with x265 on the videos I host but apparently iphones don’t like it for some reason, but I just checked again and it looks like it’s av1 they don’t like, I might try x265 again but with HEVC
I call bad atheism “The Cult of the Void”. They believe that, after you die, there is just oblivion. They have no more empirical evidence for this than any other belief system
How about that your entire world is constructed based on your brain and if that goes so does everything else? You can even temporarily change your world with drugs, some people are born with naturally damaged brains, schizophrenics believe people are chasing them even when they’re not for example
It’s a bit like saying if you lose a leg it doesn’t go to another dimension it just dies, same thing with your brain, there is no evidence to suggest the synapses that compose and construct your world suddenly transform into some angel dust and transport you to another dimension
I’ve seen them reduce kids to tears, framing death as a terrifying and brutal thing.
Why would death be scary? You get a free preview every night 😃
