  • They could have won this byā€¦ doing exactly what they did? Brilliant! Like, where/when did you see the campaign focus on trans rights rather than the economy? I mean, I didnā€™t think her economic plan was all that, but at least I heard about itā€¦ I only heard about trans anything from the right, and it certainly wasnā€™t them campaigning on trans rights! Do you really think the Democratic presidential campaign was just Democrats talking to themselves about trans rights? Iā€™m dying to know what media you consume!

You know what? I donā€™t think you have any idea about what Harris ran on, though it sounds like youā€™re aware of the FOX news caricature of her campaign. Which, honestly, puts you in probably about the same place as the average American voter.

You are right about the need to reach non-voters, but Iā€™d include never-voters. Personally, I think the addiction to fat-cat money is the biggest obstacle to attracting old and new voters. I reckon itā€™s not easy to want to fix problems that major donors donā€™t want fixed.

  • If the left not voting leads to Democrats losing, youā€™d think the party would try to win those votes. Instead they campaign like they donā€™t need them. And well, I guessā€¦ the campaign advisors actually donā€™t need them, theyā€™re gonna get hired to run the next campaign regardless. And the fat-cat donors are gonna stay rich regardless. Both ready to steer the next election!

Itā€™s always ā€œthe leftā€ thatā€™s causing candidates to win by not voting, itā€™s never candidates failing to give them something to vote for. Or advisors and donors pushing the candidates towards positions that will cost them the election. Itā€™s always ā€œthe leftā€.

But hey, she got the Cheneyā€™s vote! And look, my swing state familyā€™s as well. But Democratic candidates and policies need to go big, or theyā€™re gonna keep being sent home. People voted for Trump for the same reason they voted for Obama - they absolutely want change, and 25K for a mortgage down payment ainā€™t it.

  • Surely you meant sweet potato pie! Apples donā€™t really grow down here.

But yeah, the southern heritage one should want to claim ought to be more about shrimp and grits and less about confederates and slavers. Those traitors are history, but no decent person would claim that hateful shit as their damn heritage. Unfortunately, we ainā€™t about to run outta folks lacking decency anytime soon.

  • To me the weirdest thing isnā€™t how they still support him, itā€™s how little it seems the rest of US could care.

Itā€™s like the thing with Nigerian scammers and how they weed out the folks who arenā€™t gullible and get fat off the rest. The flamboyant absurdity that turns off normies is what attracts his victims (this is the first time Iā€™ve actually thought of his voters as victims). Iā€™m also reminded of whale sharks and how they filter out water and get fat off the plankton.

But where are the Democrats in this? Thereā€™s no adversarial someone out there between a scammer or filter feeder and their prey. And sure, the people that are going to vote for him arenā€™t going to listen to a Dem. But what about the entire apathetic electorate? Thatā€™s the seawater Trump is using to filter feed on his victims. Without that apathy he canā€™t win. If only there were some way Democratic electeds could reduce apathy amongst the American people. Some way that wouldnā€™t upset donors, that is.

    sigh

Iā€™m afraid itā€™ll be voter apathy vs whale shark scammer this November.

  • But how? Democrats have been trying to get the media to discuss what they want when they want for like 4 decades now. Mainstream media has decided itā€™s on the side of business and Dems are bad for that (I disagree, but then Iā€™m not a CEO, just someone who can read a chart), so how do you get them talking about the benefits of (D) actions instead of just the drawbacks they want to highllight in the 3 minute segment they only agreed to just to show how unrealistic or expensive or whatever they think those actions are?
