Linux@programming.dev•Linus Torvalds Working On A Hefty Linux Kernel Improvement With Claude Code
0·2 days agoYou don’t need evidence, go try it yourself. It’s like using a calculator instead of crunching out a math problem yourself.
There are places where it’s useful and if you’re smart you’ll also keep your brain balanced and sharp.
Not everyone will survive this shift in reality - NPC’s are all around.
If you want my honest answer, it requires a community of diverse people you trust so that the people who are capable of exploring this territory can figure out how to use it and it’s our duty to keep them from going into the void.

0·2 days agoI hate the billionaire class, big tech and I love the environment - but don’t tell me I can’t drink Coca Cola (or literally any off-the-shelf drink) and I’m ordering too much on Amazon! Once we take the radical responsibility that we’re all a part of this problem, we can start taking logical informed steps forward that don’t involve divergent emotions like hatred.

Linux@programming.dev•STOP OMARCHY - Boycott Tech's Far-Right Backers
0·1 month agobut I’m honestly curious, what is this movement against him going to accomplish? I do not know this DHH character nor do I care to listen to anything he says. If he’s as bad as all of these accusations make him out to be then he’s someone who’s just going to write off all of this and/or it’ll fuel him.
I’m genuinely curious, what is the real value or impact of this crusade versus putting that energy toward something constructive? While everyone here is writing about fascism, him and capitalism will keep developing.
It’s just all sounds like terribly futile tactics…
I had originally linked it, but damn! to be honest i want to have nothing to do with whatever is going on here and I’m just going to keep building stuff toward open-source decentralized future using whatever tools I have at my disposal to close the distance. I’m no trained software developer (learned C++ and python from mech engineering & physics) that can reliably maintain a repo people might depend on and this just seems like people flinging shit around. Noooo thank you

0·1 month agoVoicing again my agreement, all of this energy going against DHH could be put into a fork and that would be way more powerful and effective of a move.
It’s got kind of a tai chi element - move in the direction of the vector don’t try to go against it. It’s popular for a reason, and you don’t have to throw the baby out with the bath water. There are many things today that you could hyperfocus on the evil aspect of that people still use in their daily lives because it brings them utility.
I used Omarchy and it inspired me to make a NixOS version of it that I called Omnixient :) Thanks to the open-source nature I now have my own awesome config that has brought me a lot of fulfillment and productivity I did not have before.

Opensource@programming.dev•Normalized Fascism in Open Source: $12 Million Given to DHH
0·1 month agoadditionally, i’m not saying that opposing racism or bigotry is immature. I’m saying throwing out a successful open-source project because the owner is allegedly a racist/bigot (i admittedly know nothing or care to know anything about this DHH character) is counterproductive. Is the code racist/bigoted? If I make something using Omarchy as my OS, am I racist/bigoted? It sounds like that’s what you’re implying…

Opensource@programming.dev•Normalized Fascism in Open Source: $12 Million Given to DHH
0·1 month agoi find it interesting you think that i do not have kindness or empathy based on my stance. I’d be curious if you were to meet me in real life if you could pick me out of a hypothetical lineup.
This project has received money because it has drawn people to linux. I can still appreciate open-source code even if it’s written by an asshat.
On the other hand, I won’t touch an Apple product and I judge tech enthusiasts who do. I will still say they make impressive products, but I have a strong stance against proprietary code for the sake of profit.

Opensource@programming.dev•Normalized Fascism in Open Source: $12 Million Given to DHH
0·1 month agoThank you for writing this. I find this behavior incredibly counterproductive and immature. Additionally people are like “look at all of its security flaws!”. Great, now all of the fringe people who have joined Linux because it has gotten them to jump Microsoft/Apple ship and who might not understand the realm of software are just going to get hit with FUD.
If you’re going to keep up the crusade against it, wouldn’t it just be better to channel that energy into a fork and that way we can all build of its success?
I have used Omarchy and I loved it. DHH also acts like someone I might feel desirous of punching. It feels like something Microsoft would seed discontent and leverage our lizard brains’ need to shake our fists in the air.

also stop working for them and claim your damn sovereignty. Sure it comes with responsibility, and if you don’t want that it’s fine, but no complaining for you when they treat you like a number in a system.
It’s insane to me how intelligent software developers and people in general are, and how fucking stupid they can still be. STOP WORKING FOR CENTRALIZED CORPORATIONS, THEY DO NOT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT YOU.
That 6 figure paycheck is well accounted for in their books and they’re cashing in on it in multiples.
Open-source is hard, but look at all the hard challenges corporations are forcing you to spend relentless hours solving so they can multiply their bottom line. These are the challenges engineers are built for, why do we allow our motivations to be manipulated into something that doesn’t even serve us? That’s a serious question that deserves attention. Why do employees feel so committed to their companies? It’s simple, but highly effective psychological manipulation, but at the end of the day only you have agency over your actions.
Let’s put our collective minds to work at figuring how how to get off the tit of corporations. That milk is ultra-processed generic-branded shit.

i came to this forum thinking i’d find interesting stuff and it’s just a bunch of people getting angry at reality
