  • Even if some people don’t like Booker for his stances with respect to Israel, I think he has the energy required to actually effect the change demanded by Americans, which will still include progressive voices, whereas Schumer is using the leadership chair as if it was a retirement home like McConnell was.

If AOC wants to be President in 2028 (this is her choice and she hasn’t indicated anything yet), I think even a two-year stint as House Leader will give her enough limelight and any big achievements will be able to bridge her to becoming the Democratic nominee (over scumbags like Newsom), Ossoff is good too to potentially be set up in a similar fashion. She is presiding over some important committees already, but this is a potentially huge opportunity, not that I would be upset with Garcia, Khanna or Raskin becoming leader either.

Jeffries is set to become the first African American sworn in as House Majority Leader in January, I know many Democratic establishment don’t want to take away that moment from him, but this moment calls for way more than ceremony.

  • Actually as it stands with Sanders caucusing with Democrats, then they can afford to lose Fetterman plus one rotating “objection of conscience” position for bills they want passed, like Turek for example, if he’s trying to take a bigoted stance on trans people once in a while. MS and AK will be bonus pickups.

I honestly think Turek won’t object on Medicare bill even if it implicitly includes help for trans people, unless pressed. Similar to how Republicans rotated between Rand, Murkowski and Collins to sometimes object to a bill just for show.

  • The protocol is not to get apathetic. Organize, draft plans, get smart, then…

    • Enshrine Roe
    • protect unions
    • Lower costs by breaking up anticompetitive industry monopolies
    • use War Powers Act’s mechanisms to restrain Trump’s military adventurism
    • compel the release of Epstein files by legislating state standing to sue when the DoJ hampers state criminal investigations into Epstein-connected individuals and properties
    • Throw Trump’s corrupt cronies in jail and ensure no bribes by their connected friends reach him in the pay-for-pardons scheme that was going on.
    • allow individuals to sue when federal agents raid your home or detain you without warrant (enshrine Bivens)
    • Legislatively end Citizens United
    • Reform Medicare/aid into M4A
    • Pass a federal wealth tax, or at minimum consider amounts above a $20M threshold borrowed against equities or assets as income for tax purposes.
    • Implement universal childcare
    • reform ICE to the point of it being unrecognizable to before.
    • prepare to reform the Supreme Court in 2028.

No Kings shouldn’t stop now. This is only the beginning where the path begins to put America back together into a democracy, not a banana republic, and it won’t happen on its own devices. It takes active participation from people to shutout the fascist and billionaire influence.

  • Young Americans. Don’t forget tonight. Don’t ever forget what the last two years of evil that was allowed free reign in the USA and across the world.

Also. I didn’t hear a peep about Idaho this cycle, and even they’re going Independent?!?!? (Early results showed 47% I 40% R it’s no longer). Like yeah they are a bumfuck redneck state but even the guy they’re sending actually might support Bernie-style efforts to defeat anticompetitice oligarchies, billionaires, and might pass wealth taxes on them for deficit reasons…

  • I agree that doing away with conventions like “9-to-5” would be a good idea, and just adjust schedules to whatever is healthiest rather than try to conform to a fixed system where not necessary. In China with a single timezone, the regions far west of Beijing supposedly just go about their day with offset schedules.

I’m saying that time zones should be arranged so that solar noon falls close to 12pm.

I suppose you might have meant that, but you did say in the earlier reply, quote, “Solar noon should be at 12pm” which would suggest each city would have its own noon so that it can be true for most people. Maybe I’m being too literal bordering on facetious, so I’ll stop there. Sorry for my misinterpretation of your comment.

  • We used to do that in the 19th century before standard time was a thing with railways. Though scheduling an online meeting with anyone outside your city would be hell, for example a 9:00am meeting in New York City would be 8:48am in Boston and 9:12am in DC.

You should have also have a read on Japan’s time system before 1873 in the Meiji period: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_clock

It breaks the day and night in 6 parts each. These parts are longer in summer and shorter in winter, corresponding to a changing length of the work day, which is what you were describing. Certain aspects were retained in Japanese vocabulary like 午 still used to represent noon like in afternoon (but using the standard 24h clock), or the word for snack derived from the number 8 because that was what represented the time 2/3s of the way through the day when labourers of the day typically took a break and had some tea and a light meal.
