Not sure if it’s just me but Reddit has been feeling a bit weird lately.
Seeing more posts about bans, shadowbans, AI stuff popping up, and even some big threads don’t really feel as “normal” or casual as they used to.
Could just be overthinking it or spending too much time here tbh.
Been messing around with a small side project called Hideout that kind of came from that feeling — just trying to make something more low pressure and simple to use, nothing big.
Anyone else noticed this or nah?
Reddit is fully leaning into their AI for all moderation decisions. It started with violence, and now they’re expanding into racism. The problem with this AI model is it’s tuned really, really badly.
For example: you cannot post instructions for how to save someone from a dog attack (because it involves using a belt to choke the dog). The AI considers this violence, even though you are trying to save their life.
For racism, you cannot quote anyone. If a store manager tells you “don’t sell to black people,” and you go to Reddit to complain, quoting what your manager told you will get you suspended.
You used to be able to dispute these false warnings and Reddit was still usable, but now they’re being either ignored or denied for unexplained reasons.
Reddit just does not give a shit anymore. If 15% of their users are struggling to use the site, they think it’s acceptable.
It’s also ideological thing you can fly under the radar, but my last 2 bans mentioned Theil and Tan, I don’t think it’s a coincidence.
Like I wasn’t even saying they should die, I just joked about them in a comment that also joked about death. But I guess they’re using the dumbest AI possible to process these bans.
I really dislike those posts where OP pretends to be a genuine human and you get to the end only to see that it was a disguised advertisement
I get why it can come across that way , those kinds of posts are everywhere now.
That wasn’t really my intention though. I just mentioned it because it came from the same feeling I was talking about, not to push anyone to use it.
If it’s not your thing, that’s completely fine.
Thx for the comment👍
Would you still feel that way if I told you it was Engineered for Connection!?
In fact, every detail was crafted to make your digital life more vibrant, secure, and fun!
😭 yeah that’s exactly the kind of thing I was not trying to sound like just a small project, nothing that deep.
Reddit is full on captured by special interest. I’ve had a few accounts over there flat out get banned for made-up reasons, I’ve had benign comments get shadow banned, and if you go to places like /worldnews and go against the agenda of the moderation team you immediately get clipped.
Fuck reddit. It’s dead.
I wish there were more active sports groups here. I do miss talking about baseball and stuff.
Oh interesting. How do you get onto that instance? Do you need to make another account for that?
You rule!!!
Just tap on the link and you should be in. It’s not asking me for a login… (but I’ve only been doing this a couple weeks, too. 😁)
Weird in the upper corner it’s showing me that I need to login!
🤔
It’s cool I’ll figure it out!
Isn’t there a dedicated instance?
Honestly Idk! I’m new to this site so I’m still figuring it out.
Yeah I get the frustration, moderation on big platforms can definitely feel inconsistent sometimes.
I think the part I relate to more is just missing those smaller, more normal community discussions, especially niche stuff like sports where it’s just people chatting and sharing takes.
Yeah agreed!
lol, lately? I felt it like 2 yrs ago…
these days, idgaf about that website at all or anything that happens there.
If you don’t mind me asking what are the alternative platforms you use?( if you gave any)
you’re literally on one right now
What advantages does it have over the Fediverse on which you are currently posting? Is the source code published so that folks can check it out?
It’s not really trying to compete with the Fediverse or replace it. It’s more just me experimenting with a smaller, simpler space, less noise, less complexity, more low-pressure interaction.
So the “advantage” (if any) is really just that kind of vibe, not some big technical leap.
And no, it’s not open source right now. It’s just a small project I’ve been building and figuring out as I go.
