I’ll be 18 in 16 days. Trying to get anytype of advise or idea what I should do. Some type of startup or anything. I did start on working on a website which just connects customers and workers together. But is there anything else I could do? Anything you have for me.
You need to get a job. Any job in any industry. You don’t know what you like or what you’re good at yet, not really. Do you have an extremely strong financial support system? (What I mean by that is all housing, food, health insurance completely covered) Not to crush dreams, but, don’t start a business. Not yet, at least. If you don’t have a strong financial support system DO NOT TRY TO START A BUSINESS. Get any job, do that until you find something that pays better and you think you could stomach doing then jump to it. Keep doing that until you find a career. Then if you want, try to build a business around that.
Yeah I do have good financial support.
That’ll make the first job you get a lot easier then. You don’t have to be in panic mode or make X amount so you can really take whatever seems interesting. Find any job and start working full time ASAP. If you’re gonna go to school, get a part time job. Literally any job in any industry will be informative for your future. Experience isn’t just a thing for your resume, it’ll help you grow, understand the world and ideally figure out what place you have in it.
Okay
Doing anything is always better than doing nothing. Not only on resumes, but I’ve gotten better opportunities at the top because of people I worked with at the bottom.
Also, don’t forget to brush your teeth. You’re on your last set and when one of them starts to rot the pain is unbearable! And don’t talk to cops. You cannot talk your way OUT of trouble, you’re just talking your way into trouble.
Okay
I think that depends on your hobbies and interests.
Find a job, or work with other people. People with more experience than you, you can learn from. Don’t chase abstract things like ‘success’, ‘money’, ‘fame’, because those things don’t focus you on anything. Make concrete plans and figure out what you need to know or do to execute your own plans. You clearly don’t have a plan, and that’s fine. It took me until I was 35 until i really figured out what i wanted to achieve and this plan that I drew out for myself took me ten years and I hope to finish by next year. I set very lofty but concrete goals for myself, and I had to work very hard to get this far. Anyway, moral of the story is that you have plenty of time to figure out what you want. Try stuff out.
Thank you
Firstly, congratulations on nearly reaching the starting line to the rest of your life. 18 always feels different to different people, but mostly everyone finds that life changes quite rapidly after that level-up.
People here have mentioned getting a job, but I want to offer a bit more actionable advice:
- Contact a temp agency. You might find a direct employment somewhere if you scour the landscape enough, but temp agencies almost always have a contract in need of someone who is willing to show up. A lot of industries use temp agencies to fill in gaps but also to headhunt, and temp-to-hire is a real possibility that could translate into a career. Do not let anyone try to dissuade you from using a temp agency. Especially for those lacking work experience, they are likely your best bet(that was how I began before I was even out of Highschool a decade ago).
- The fact you are actually working on a website(HTML from scratch or at least some custom HTML usage I would hope?) is really cool! But let it be a side-hobby until you can get enough of that experience under your belt. If you get well-versed enough in web design, you could always freelance for experience and possibly translate that into an opportunity down the line.
- Starting a business is a lot a lot of work. It is not something a greenhorn(those new to things) should really be vying for, though the ambition is to be admired, I did not have that kind of thinking when I was your age. More power to you there, but do not get lost in the sauce. Like I mentioned in point 2, perhaps you can translate your apparent passion of web design into something eventually, but first you need capital and stability.
I am not going to offer financial advice since, well, I cannot do that. But the above is general job advice from a girlie on the boulevard, you can take it or leave it. I will opine one thing though: Banks usually have a way to automatically transfer money to a savings account and you can set percentages when setting up direct deposits so you can put money in one per paycheck, if you feel so inclined to do so. That is up to you and your situation though, just mentioning it if you were unaware of that.
Thank you so much
First, you have to decide who you want to be and what you want out of life. You can have anything, but not everything, if you pursue it without stopping
Don’t take on debt.
Don’t get into a relationship with a manipulator.
Be honest in your dealings. Don’t take advantage of people or profit off suffering
Follow that, and you have 10 years to figure out everything else. 20’s are for learning, 30’s are for earning… Just try stuff. Pursue whatever you like, make connections with people, and you’ll build a foundation that will put you far ahead later on
And if you do want to try doing a software start up, I am looking for someone to partner with who can make sales. I’m planning to go after professionals like lawyers and start by making them websites to make the connection, and taking whatever work flows from that. Hit me up if you’re interested
Sure I could join you

I can edit videos and have done that for a commission but that’s not what I want to do. I want to develop apps and websites which people actually use.

Creating a business
You can make websites for local businesses.

Okay
At that age I was working full time at a grocery store in a small town and taking a lot of drugs lol. I’m far past that and working as a software dev now so I don’t think you really need to be doing much besides saving some money and thinking about career paths
Edit: I agree with everyone else saying you don’t need to be worrying about starting a business unless you have a limitless supply of cash from family or something
Okay
Stay in school. University, community college or an apprenticeship.
