Also their popularity in the countryside suffered only really due to them collectivizing the land after passing a land reform that created a owning farmers class out of a population of feudal serfs, who obviously had the interest of holding on to that newly found land ownership the Bolsheviks granted them.
Before they took over, more than 75% of the population couldn’t even read, so how would they be able to think for themselves and be mobilized by a party whose main organ is a newspaper?
