Put them on Mr. Bone’s Wild Ride.
The Black Mirror writers begin furiously scribbling in their notebooks
and then you build a pool for them to play in without a ladder
I’d just download it and delete it 👌
Purely theoretical, if you inherit, let’s say, Elon Musk’s money, and you then resurrect him. Do you have to give that money back?
No, I think you would just inherit Elon Musk too. Make sure you feed him and take him on walks.
No, and I wouldn’t even ressurect him right away.
Id force his consciousness to play NES battletoads without break until he can beat it without cheating or warps before he can partially return to the real world.
Hmmm, a question that affects this is whether a resurrected person be considered the original or a genetically identical twin?
If that girl is anything like me, she would be letting the techbro sims go for a swim, and then removing the ladder.
Great minds think alike!
The teenage girl is probably named AM.

What a load of bullshit. It will be the sims 5.
Someone is a bit optimistic with how EA works.
In 2050?
I think you might be a bit too optimistic.
yeah we gotta get half life 3 and gta 6 first
Not optimistic i just dont think EA is creative enough to make new dlc that long. They have to release 5 so they can put out all the same dlc on the new one.
Guys. You know what I would do in this scenario? It involves swimming pools and no ladders.
wasn’t it no bridges?
Too slow, too kind.
there’s likely a mod for giving sim periods. it’s likely a matter of messing with some config files to give them permanent endomitosis periods
Wicked whims does adult sims mod stuff, I understand. Dunno about endometriosis, but I’m sure it’s doable. N
they better, gonna give them techbros an interesting afterlife
A bid for immortality on the back of an LLM is just… asinine. What are they thinking?! That’s like saying we can bring Shakespeare back from the dead because we created a very clever digital knot based on all his written works, and he can only speak to us from a web browser or text terminal. Do these animals really think they can just model their Reddit posts and live as a ghost in the machine after that?
I would love to hear what Kurzweil has to say about all this.
Kurzweil seems to have a very positive outlook on ai and the singularity, but completely ignores the glaring fact that its all owned and controlled by psychopath billionaires.
Plus putting shit in your body, that handles everything your braincells already do slightly faster (just faster so you can get squeezed out of your money faster) is definitely great for human development. We will become just a body remotely controlled by a corporation’s server. And imagine intelligence being paywalled.
I would torrent any of them. Then I’d mod them into palworld so they can work to death while my pals chill in the japanese terms.
I would mod 'em in minecraft villagers. This is all i can say, my lawyer said to not continue.
Force them to trade for low prices with that metod
Hahaaa, I’d mod them into fun Rimworld characters.
Oh no, Jeff was hit by a space junk while building his simple rocket and lost his leg! And Elon is there, on ketamine aaaand he overdosed by smoking a blunt and is lying unconscious. And all the robo cat droids broke down so no one can save them. Damn you Randy.
I think Elon could make it with one lung one kidney one arm and one leg and being drained of blood regularly
Oh yes, the “one” character. Juste one of everything!
Under rated game
I was thinking upload them into a twink femboy fuck doll but your idea is good too.
Normally I don’t kink shame, but ew. Twink femboys are one thing, but getting it on with tech bro consciousnesses is where I have to draw the line!
I think putting peter thiel into the body of a cum powered maid bot would be ethical and good
Too much risk he might like it, and more importantly, unethical to find somebody to supply the cum. The fundamental issue here is not whether he deserves the humiliation, it’s the collateral damage in inflicting it.
What other reason would he have to upload his consciousness but that?
what did twink femboy fuck dolls ever do to deserve that?
It doesn’t even matter what you do to them. You can torture them forever and you can choose whether they can remember or not.
A better hell of their own making I cannot think of.
They think they’re going to live on their island fortresses with an army of slave robots, and the occasional actual slave.
They think the LLM hallucination problem will be ironed out in a couple of years.
They think longevity drug therapy is just a few years away.
I think they’re very wrong. They can throw all the money and electricity they want at these two fantasies, and they will remain fantasies. Unfortunately, we’re going to let them beat us all to hell over this… until we won’t anymore.
They know they’re in a race against an uprising, they just think they’re going to win this time.
They think the LLM hallucination problem will be ironed out in a couple of years.
That one is a tad more realistic than uploading human consciousness.
not unless they pivot on the basic principles of the LLM’s, instead of attempting to force a square peg into a circle hole.
Hallucinations have already been reduced. You’re expressing a pretty standard anti-LLM stance but it seems people in the field think the hallucination problem can be fixed. Even something as simple as having them say “I don’t know”. Better use of tools and sources.
The fact that hallucination is less of a problem then it used to be should make it pretty clear that it’s not immutable.
In any event, it’s still ridiculously more possible than artificially transferring human consciousness.
What kids like i want my character to be a seditious pedofile narcissist who is trying to dismantle democracy, dismantle the education system, take away women’s rights, destroy my future, build a mass surveillance AI to subjugate all of humanity and ultimately end up hiding in a bunker when humanity either turns on them or they unleash some kind of evil depopulation plan. Fun. I don’t get how they don’t understand that they are the villain
They watched 80s and 90s Saturday morning cartoons and thought the bad guys were actually the good guys with good plans of bringing law and order to a chaotic world and the good guys were the bad guys because they did woke shit like have token female/non-white characters and did things like help people without demanding a 50 year contract and ownership of their children.
It is odd. Saturday morning cartoons aren’t fiction, far as villainous characters go…
Scooby Doo is basically a story of real estate criminals and grifters. The fake bit is that they are brought to justice.
Scooby Doo has a really, really bleak society. Many of the criminals possess incredible skills that would readily land them high paying jobs in our world. Some villains try to scare others by using what would be incredible practical/special effects, but are somehow doing this for insurance fraud instead of having every producer in Hollywood and every music artist knock on their door to get them to make special effects for their stuff.
Another one that I remember is when a villain made a super advanced robot that is 100% autonomous and capable of things like operating a vehicle and navigating on their own (this is much better than a regular self-driving car) and… are able to be tricked and confused, since Shaggy confuses by them but pretending to be a gym teacher (or something) and making them do jumping Jacks and the robot is just baffled.
A robot with that ability is just so far beyond what is possible now and that episode aired in the 70s. Can you imagine if someone could make a robot like that? On their own in a cave with a box of scraps? He could change the world and make an unholy amount of money.
Instead his creator was just using him for what was basically petty theft.
Scooby Doo is far darker than you think with that in mind.
I guess that is a running theme with supervillains…their sheer potential, lost to pettiness.
What was that Sim Sisyphean home design that was floating around the internet a while back? The guy ha designed a home for the Sim that basically took forever to exit via a circuitous hedgerow or something that the occupant could never quite make it out of to get to work, and would have to turn around and trudge all the way back through the circle to home, only to have almost next to no time to sleep and eat before it was time to get up and begin the hopeless trudge to work again.
Yeah.
Good place for those personalities.
That is too creative. More than they deserve. Just have a simple swimming pool with no ladder… then bring them back to life and repeat.
I want to get off of Mr. Bones’ Wild Ride
Sounds like something Let’s Game It Out would do. They very often make silly things like that.
Nah, he only made a living, enclosed gallery composed of the entire neighborhood in front of Keanu Reeves’ toilet, which happens to be 2 feet away from his kids’ bed. Truly breathtaking
Sounds like something GrayStillPlays would do.
Idk, there’s the Cracked juggalo experiment to rerun
Whenever I see this post, I think of this short story. I don’t see it linked here yet, so here ya go.
(Wrong copy linked, updated)
That was a great story, thanks for sharing. I love how the voice of the article sounds exactly like I’d expect from the kind of article we might read today. It reminded me a little of the 1972 “Lenna image” of Lena Forsén in Playboy that was frequently used for illustrating image processing algorithms (a practice that is now banned in most relevant journals.
I also liked how the story mentioned fiction about brain uploading. That was very meta, and I enjoyed it to an unreasonable degree.
Oh! I bet that’s where the name of the thing comes from! If you go back into the link, Lena is at the top of the page, and the original draft shared the name.
Thanks for that added context!
ah sweet man made horrors beyond my understanding
Man, that was a depressing reading
It is. If you like the concept though, the animated show Pantheon starts similarly, but goes an entirely different depressing direction :)
I disagree,
Pantheon
I think Pantheon goes in a very pleasant and inspiring direction. After going in a depressing direction first of course
Great story, I thought of this too. What I like about this story is that so much of the horror is implied.
excerpt
MMAcevedo’s demeanour and attitude contrast starkly with those of nearly all other uploads taken of modern adult humans, most of which boot into a state of disorientation which is quickly replaced by terror and extreme panic. Standard procedures for securing the upload’s cooperation such as red-washing, blue-washing, and use of the Objective Statement Protocols are unnecessary. This reduces the necessary computational load required in fast-forwarding the upload through a cooperation protocol
…
MMAcevedo develops early-onset dementia at the age of 59 with ideal care, but is prone to a slew of more serious mental illnesses within a matter of 1–2 subjective years under heavier workloads. In experiments, the longest-lived MMAcevedo underwent brain death due to entropy increase at a subjective age of 145.
…
Towards the end of his life, as it became possible to run simulated humans in banks of millions at hundred-fold time compression, Acevedo indicated that being uploaded had been the greatest mistake of his life, and expressed a wish to permanently delete all copies of MMAcevedo.
!I agree. I think the technical tone of the story was great for keeping that eerie distance that makes the reader do the work of understanding the horror.
I found the time bit most creepy. When it first mentions about telling him what date it was, I felt unnerved because at that point, I had no way to know how long after the initial upload this piece was written from, in narrative. The sense of disorientation from this made me empathise even harder with MMAcevedo.
I think probably the part I found most horrifying was the bit discussing the kinds of work that MMAcevedo is useful for. I know a lot of people who work in research — enough that I know that academic nerds like Acevedo tend to find menial, repetitive work that doesn’t engage their brains to be especially soul destroying. But I suppose that’s the benefit of MMAcevedo right? No need to worry about destroying a person’s soul if they’re not a person, and they (are legally considered to) lack a soul. !<
You should put that in a spoiler tag :)
Really? OK… btw any idea why it’s called “Lena”?
No idea on the naming, I haven’t really looked into the author or their writing beyond this tbh. However if you click on the links at the top, it takes you through more of their work and author info, it might be buried there somewhere.
And the spoiler request is just because it’s really not that long and those are the juicy bits ;) I think it’s way more impactful inside the greater context, but I mean maybe I’m wrong on that, and have weird preferences.
Another comment gave probable context for that :)
ooh that makes sense, thanks!
Oh my God that is horrifying. Reminds me of “I have no mouth and I must scream”
This is brilliant. It reminds of those asklemmy questions, “If you could Google one thing from the future”, or in this case read one Wikipedia page from the future. Obviously I wouldn’t know to find this page, but it reads about a world I, living now, don’t understand.
So, it’s Gray Matters with more computers.
I’ve not read it; any good?
It’s definitely of its era, and I’d describe it more as memorable than good. I think it was a stylistic exercise by the author.
