Jack Black has said he’s cancelled the rest of the Tenacious D world tour after his bandmate Kyle Gass sparked an outcry with a comment about the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. The comedy rock group were on stage in Sydney, Australia, on Sunday when Gass was asked to make a wish after being presented with a cake for his 64th birthday. He appeared to reply: "Don’t miss Trump next time."

As much as I agree with Kyle’s sentiment, I can 100% understand Jack’s position here. In addition to wanting to remain eligible for movie and tv roles, he probably also doesn’t want to get shot. Security for singers is probably more lax than security for ex-presidents, after all (at least most of the time). It’s easy to imagine some troglodytic cultist piece of shit taking the band joking about killing their bloated lord and savior personally, and resolving to do something about it.

On the one hand, I can get where he’s coming from on a humanitarian viewpoint, that praying for someone else’s death is in the abstract a bad thing.

But to break up a band that’s been going for like 25 years and that was the foundation of his entire success over something that could be equated to being a jovial quip either means that tenacious d has other issues as a band or that Jack Black has some political opinions that are more important to him than his friends.

I hope he gets a wake up call and attempts to repair the relationship with Kyle Gass as soon as possible.

Or…… Jack Black has a lucrative movie career that could get completely derailed if he doesn’t distance himself from this for a while.

I dunno. He’s American. Killing insurrectionists and fascists is pretty popular. I heard they put something about it in the constitution.

Jack is a coward. It’s the least metal thing he’s ever done … and he played a cartoon panda.

Did he confirm the band is breaking up, or could they just be canceling the tour until this blows over?

I mean, wouldn’t the safest place to continue doing concerts would be Australia, where they actually have pretty stringent gun laws?

Watching the reaction to this leads me to believe people treat life as they do a video game. Thousands of lives are expendable, but people suddenly clutch pearls when it’s one of the people whose lives “matter.”

Would Jack Black have canceled the tour if someone defended one of the people committing genocide in Palestine or putting immigrants in cages and deporting them back to potentially destructive situations?

I really can’t muster the energy to care about someone like Trump or Biden when I’m seeing dead children in my feed every day.

“I don’t support violence.” Yes these people do, with their silence and complicity. It’s hypocrisy and double standards of the most disgusting kind.

Tl;dr I’ve lost respect for Jack Black

So you’re saying Jack Black isn’t wishing Trump had lived, but rather that he’s a spineless coward who refuses to stand against fascism. Damn, I’ll try not to be like him.

You go say “assassinate people on stage if you don’t like them” to a crowd with more guns than people and where shootings are already a daily occurrence.

I’d not only be worried for me and my friend but for the people just standing in my audience as well. Remember the time some dude killed a lot of concert goers in Las Vegas i think from his hotel window? That’s a lot more than just risking your own live by saying that.
