a lot of people recoil at bats using a firearm.

I recoil at the thought of bats using a machinegun as shitty as the m60. bruce could afford better.

    we are not the same.

The M60 is a reliable, well designed machine gun. From an in depth write up of the gun

It was not unusual for an M60 to be used on daily missions where the treelines around perimeters would be pounded for 5-6,000 rounds in a day before landing in an LZ. Clearly, many of these M60s would be facing terminal life at a month’s use, but they soldiered on. Quite a few of these worn out guns were donated to Central American fighters in the 1980s, and this has led to legends about how “Bad” the M60 was. The fact is, the M60 GPMG was a very reliable machine gun, and while it had its problems, it was quite popular and faithful to the machine gunner who kept it clean and properly lubed.

I don’t give a fuck what the link says. The only part on point is the last line.

The authors obviously never humped a pig, the ones we had in the late 80s/early 90s were garbage. hope you have a BIG spray bottle of clp and a lot of time to spend maintaining the plastic contraption - literally hours of maint for every few belts in the field. It was overly heavy for what it brought to bear, and the ROF didn’t break any new ground. Oh and bring extra blank fire adaptors, they tend to get bendy / melty with any kind of sustained bursts.

(tho, the giant training models were kinda cool, imagine a 2x sized plastic m60 model to illustrate the operation).

it was my first belt fed mg. I vastly prefer the modern options - nothing is perfect, but I’d much rather run belts, engage beaten areas, traverse the bipod, etc., on a m240b. I’m sure the m60s we had were used up as well, but jesus
