Is it now a Hollywood tradition to make really shitty movies set in Oahu?

Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy watching this movie but holy fuck is it bad. The premise is nonsensical, the jingoism is super over the top. Is this meant to be a satire?

If you went into a summer action blockbuster focused around the US Navy based on a board game and co-starring Rhianna expecting a cinematic tour de force and Oscar nominations well… thats on you.

It was definitely not the world’s best movie, but given it was literally an adaptation of the board game Battleship, it was better than it has any right to be. I would say better game adaptation than Halo.

Nah, Top Gun is an advertisement for people who play too much Warbirds. Battleship os an advertisement for people who play too much World of Warships.

Top gun movies actually have very good score on IMDB. I don’t know why. Top Gun is just a decent ads for US air force

It was a fun movie to turn your brain off to. I personally enjoyed it as a brain-less action film, and I liked how they interpreted the game mechanics into real world action.

The board game rule pamphlet is the main plot arc. Both sides doing the whole blindly firing at given coordinates because… aliens

My theory was that this movie’s sole purpose was the montage set to AC/DC with the old timers firing up the decommissioned battleship to fuck shit up. It’s the only explanation

I mean, the movie is called Battleship, and it’s about the game Battleship, where players try to sink each other’s Battleships. But the Navy doesn’t have Battleships anymore, so they are going to start the film on the last floating Battleship which has been mostly decommissioned, along with the aged-but-spry retired Battleship crew who would love one last hurrah.

It’s like if they made a movie called Chekov’s Gun, and the movie starts by showing you a Gun hanging on the wall with “Property of Chekov” engraved in the stock, and everyone stops to ponder if maybe Chekov’s old Gun would still fire if they needed it.

      Fiveshadowing.

I own that sheeit on Blu-ray. I’m also 43, so nostalgia plays no part.
