Fediverse@lemmy.world•Does Mastodon bring anything of value to a Lemmy user?English
8·14 days agoI personally don’t like microblogging platforms in general. It’s cool that there’s an alternative to twitter and the like, but I just have no pull towards platforms that emulate that kind of environment.
I think it’s great that it’s so popular and has introduced a lot of people to the fediverse and spread awareness of ethical alternatives to corporate slop, but is not for me.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•My 1TB hard drive took a crap reformatted it, lost all my info, and it works now. How do I use a cloud or drive online to backup my stuff so I am not relying just on physical and can dl anywhere?English
0·20 days agoGenerally speaking, you’ll want to follow the 3-2-1 storage rule.
(3 Copies, 2 Media Types, 1 Off-site)
Copy 1 would be the original info saved on your main drive or wherever you access them immediately. Copy 2 is a local backup saved to an external hard drive or a home server, ideally one that’s powered off and not connected to direct power (lightning strikes)
Copy 3 can either be a cloud storage backup (such as Google Drive or OneDrive) or a copy kept at a friend’s house.
Really cool! Looks kinda like a psychedelic South African flag.

Social media sites should do this. There’s never a good reason to be on [Insert Corporate Slop Social Media Website here] at 3AM.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is there a website that can tell you the new names to I guess "classify" people? Like the R word, or the N word or skin color or nationaility? For ex. Is African American still acceptable and so forthEnglish
0·25 days agoI’m probably being overly semantic but perhaps saying “A person with a blue hat and dark skin” would be the least abrasive way of putting it? That said, obsessing over endless semantic refinement and searching for a flawless alternative that does not exist for fear of hypothetical offense will lead to recursive over-correction ad nauseam

No, he was a freelance ritual specialist.
I appreciate that! I’m not sure which communities I could cross-post cel-damage content to, but I like that that’s a native feature.
This is great news! I appreciate how Reddit is taking the initiative to spread awareness of the Fediverse. Bravo to them!

0·29 days agoFor starters don’t call them females
I appreciate the heads-up, and honestly the original reddit community was pretty much completely dead as well, so I’m not really expecting much to come of it. I’m mainly creating this and some other communities here because there are subreddits dedicated to them, but since I don’t want to use reddit I’m creating them here instead. Whether they’re much busier if at all is not an expectation for me, i’d just like to centralize my communities here moving forward -
Yes, it’s the PS2/GC game from the early 2000’s. As far as I am aware the scene is pretty much completely dead. The latest re-release was on the Nintendo Switch on the 28th of March 2019, and someone submitted a new WR 5 months ago on the Xbox Series S. So there’s still a pulse, but not much of one lol. This game just has a special place in my heart and I wanted to see if anyone else here actually remembers it or still holds the same reverence for it as I do

Still no ever going to give them a cent but it’s good that they suck less
