“Annexes” literally means “takes control of illegally.”

So this image is positing that “left” is lesser evil and “right” is greater evil.

Just before line two, the greater evil has won. Because more people voted for the greater evil.

If more people had voted for the lesser evil, lines two through four would be reversed, and the result would be less evil.

Of course, the whole thing presumes that bOtH sIdEs are some unacceptable level of evil. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are problems that need resolving, regardless of what kind of politics is involved. How and whether those problems get solved depends heavily on what kind of politics is involved.

That’s absolutely not the long term effect of voting for the lesser evil.

That’s the effect of more people voting for the greater evil.

That’s not how Social Security works, and it never has worked that way.

SocSec is not a retirement account. It is a program that provides income to people who are retired, and it is funded by payroll withholding from people who have not retired. Prior to SocSec, there was a huge problem with poverty among the elderly, people who were no longer able to work, or not able to work the kind of demanding physical labor they used to. It was then, and is still now, wrong for society to abandon people to poverty when they’re no longer able to work.

They’ll get started, all gung ho, realize they’ve bit off more than they can chew, notice that the oppression has made it so that the cost of undocumented labor goes down (because what are they gonna do, complain?), and then slow the roll of disappearing people to a manageable level while still keeping the remainder well oppressed.

The tariffs just work another side of that equation. Tariffs raise prices on manufactured goods across the board, for foreign and domestic products, because if you’re a domestic manufacturer of widgets, all you have to do is set the price of your widget just under the price of foreign widgets.

Put some cheap labor on top of that, your labor expense goes down, and you get more profit.
