Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why can people see who upvotes and who downvoted post on Lemmy?
7·2 days agoIf someone has a problem with your alt they can ban it. If votes would be encrypted they would have to defederate the full instance where they come from.
Create separate accounts for privacy not for vote manipulation

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why can people see who upvotes and who downvoted post on Lemmy?
5·2 days agoIf it would be encrypted, it would open up for vote manipulation. There are plans that mods will see who upvotes in their communities. Create multiple accounts on different instances if you need more privacy, separate personalities for different topics.

memes@lemmy.world•Google Chrome must be coerced into adopting standards
581·2 days agoSafari is the new ie from a developer’s POV. But chrome deliberately ignores some w3c standards, much like ie did back in the days, so some comparison could be made
The illegal part is that they add a restriction. If card payment is available they should offer it to everyone. Cash payments are still common here in Hungary
If my card would be stolen, the thief could pay some amount without entering the pin on a contactless terminal. On the phone you can’t pay without touching the fingerprint reader, so it’s more secure from at least this common atttack vector
A cashier told me once that it was rare that I tried to pay with an actual card, as nowadays people pay with their phone when they say they want to pay with card.
Here in a lot small shops you can pay with card only if you pay more then some amount, usually more than 4-5 EUR. Afaik it’s not legal though

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Trying to dualboot Linux Mint + Windows on a second external hard drive but Windows Setup doesn't let me install on the disk...English
49·6 days agoThe problem is the usb. If you want to run windows from a removable drive you need a special installation, called “Windows To Go”.
You can install it with rufus: https://www.digitalcitizen.life/install-windows-to-go/
I couldn’t find the original, but at least this doesn’t have an annoying ai narration:

Indeed, birb succeeds
Literally 1984.
Quick tip: you can copy paste images to lemmy, I know it works on the default webui and in Voyager, but I guess it’s a common feature: rightclick/longpress on an image in your browser -> copy image -> paste in the comment box, wait a bit and it should upload it automatically, and it pastes the correct markdown. No traces for the all-knowing entity to see.
