No time like the present to call your Senators and ask them to vote No on cloture for the continuing resolution until the Musk/Trump administration stops their lawbreaking
Just sent an email to my weakass Democratic congressmen, telling him that i expect strength and courage from my Rep, and that if i see him cast a single vote for ANY Republican legislation, i will strongly support any Democrat who primaries him.
I won’t bother with my two Republican Senators, they are already proven traitors and ridiculously corrupt. They belong in prison for their crimes, and that’s not partisan rhetoric.
Lol a ball gag doesn’t count.
Any D needs to vote no. Republicans control all three branches. They own any shutdown. Seems like it is already shutdown. Fucking Johnson gaslighting Ds telling them they need to do the responsible thing. They can eat me.
The Dems need to vote No on EVERYTHING. For the next four years, there shouldn’t be a single Dem vote for any MAGA bill, period. The Reps have the majorities in both the House and the Srnate, so if they csnt pass it with their own majorities, then thats their problem to solve, not the Dems. The 10 Dems that voted to censure Greene for his outburst should be strogly primaried. Get in line, or get the fuck out. Were in a Civil War, and if you arrnt actively fighting against MAGA Treason, then you are a Vichy/Quisling.
I will be calling my useless Dem congressman today, and informing him of this. I don’t want to see a single vote for any MAGA legislation, not one, or i will vote for any opponent in the primary.
As much as shutting the government down will hurt, it’s preferable to letting lawlessness go unchecked. DOGE is planning on massive illegal cuts to social services. So putting off pain now will just lead to more pain later. Democrats need to hold the line and not vote for any continuing resolution without hefty strings attached reigning in the administration’s lawless behavior.
For God’s sake, Trump is illegally deporting people and planning openly political prosecutions. I would prefer the government completely closed down to one run by literal Nazis.
It’s not going to hurt any less than what they’re doing nowadays with the government “working”. Hell, might even be better. ICE will stop getting their paychecks, too.
Of course, that all assumes that eel-on-musk didn’t get one of his wish.com wünderkinds to install a backdoor in the fucking treasury department a few weeks ago.
Do we know that DOGE will be affected at all by a shutdown?
The best argument I’ve heard against Dems filibustering the CR is that a filibuster would mean that they would - in the eyes of the public - take responsibility for the shutdown, and that the public would blame them for EVERYTHING wrong with the country now, including all of the Trump/Musk messes.
Which is insane to me. Allowing the CR to go through would cause much more direct harm, show that the Dems don’t really care about opposing this insanity, and - if we’re worried about PR - allow the GOP to blame future problems on Biden since they’re marketing the CR as a continuation of Biden’s budget when it’s really nothing of the sort.
This is precisely the time to use the filibuster. If the GOP wants to remove it, let them. They’ll own it, and if the Dems ever get back into power, it’ll help them tremendously.
“The president is, through Elon Musk and DOGE, trying to illegally seize the power of the purse from Congress by unilaterally shutting down programs that congress funded and Americans rely on. If we don’t use every tool available to us to protect the separation of powers, we would be in violation of the oaths we swore to protect and defend the constitution.”
Thats all they should need to say. This is a pretty black and white situation.
They need to hear their constituents saying it to have a backbone
precisely, they need to hear from us. thanks for posting!
It’s not all they need to say. They need to expound upon it at great length in a traditional (real) filibuster.
The best argument I’ve heard against Dems filibustering the CR is that a filibuster would mean that they would - in the eyes of the public - take responsibility for the shutdown, and that the public would blame them for EVERYTHING wrong with the country now, including all of the Trump/Musk messes.
This plays right into the GOP’s (and especially Johnson’s) hands, because that’s the exact narrative they’re trying to push. “Despite the fact that we control literally every branch of government and the Democrats have no leverage, it’s completely the Democrats’ fault if the government shuts down.”
They’re going to do it anyway, regardless of if you vote for or against the CR. Republicans don’t take responsibility. That’s a rule carried over from the McConnell era. Blame everything on Democrats. Push the narrative hard, and eventually the base will believe it.
Democrats would just need to respond with “This CR would enable DOGE to continue their illegal and unconstitutional gutting of social safety net programs and firings of federal employees en masse. The government employees that would be affected by a government shutdown are also the same employees that are most vulnerable to being fired on the whims of Donald Trump and/or Elon Musk anyway. Democrats cannot vote in favor of a continuing resolution without also validating the GOP’s continued illegal and unconstitutional purge of our government employees and social safety net programs. Republicans are in control of all branches of government. If they want to continue down this destructive path, they have the ability to do so without a single Democrat vote, and that is what they will have to do.”
Marsha Marsha Marsha doesn’t answer her phone and send backs generic form responses.
Same for Fetterman.
I’m ashamed to have had his bumper sticker.
No politician deserves bumper space.
Depends what you mean by “bumper space.” I can think of a few I could accept some dents for.
She is a worthless bag of hair.
Don’t insult hair like that.
Whatever. They’re cowards. Just more lip service
I’ll believe it when I see it.
Have you called your reps, friend? Skepticism is fine. Inaction is unacceptable at this time.
I have called my Republican House representative and my states two Democratic senators. They seem flooded, so I had to leave a message with each, but we’ll see.
TY! I appreciate it! Mine seemed flooded with calls, too. They need to know what we want, if we are to have even the smallest hope.
They’ve all been flooded ever since the Musk/Trump administration started their crime spree
