Obviously, its not for drugs because then it would’ve been Columbia.

So why Venezuela?

Or Mexico, or China, for supplying drug precursor chemicals.

Nope, it’s desperation by Trump to distract from his low popularity polling, by using the “Wag The Dog” “wartime president” strategy.

That, combined with his Republican American corporate backers taking over Venezuelan oil to boost their declining profits.

Why do Americans blame supply and never the crazy high demand?

Oil and socialism(sorta). Venezuela has the largest proven oil deposits in the world and they nationalized their oil to provide for their pwople under a US blockade. They aren’t socialist the are more like social democracy but this cannot be allowed in the imperial periphery as it reduced extractative profits in the core. If they were to succeed in maintainjng that system it might spread like we are seeing in Colombia. This threatens imperialism.

There’s probably more than one reason, but an important reason I want to outline is the war that’s predicted to happen in 2027 or 2028: China vs. USA, sparked by Chinese invasion of Taiwan.

Venezuela is allied with China, has weapons, and is within range of the Panama Canal. The canal will be very important during the war, as it will be the route that Atlantic naval ships take to get to the war zone. China would lean on Venezuela to target, damage, and possibly shut-down the canal, dramatically increasing US supply lines and down-time for ship repairs & updates. Most of our ship capacity is on the east coast.

Everything the US does now is with an eye on this possible war. It is the reason why the Biden administration didn’t get more involved in the defense of Ukraine. The US fears getting bogged down in a second war when the war against China starts. Here, with Venezuela, we took out a significant threat quickly and made the canal more secure. Yes, there’s oil, ego, distractions, and other reasons … but don’t discount the role this future conflict plays.

Any War With China is fearmongering and a way to siphon even more funds to the military industrial complex.

There will be no war between the US and China. Neither country has the resources or staging ground to do any meaningful damage to the other. And in the (increasingly likely) event China attacks Taiwan or Japan? Russia invaded Ukraine how many times? And we STILL didn’t care until it looked like Ukraine could hold out for a bit. There will be tutting and calls for sanctions and that is it.

And if things DO escalate to the point of actual conflict between nations? That is when the nukes get launched.

Russia was a fairly plausible threat because NATO shared so much of a land border with them. China? The closest we have is South Korea which would have to go through an entire other country (that has so many human rights violations it would bog down any kind of an advance) to even get to a shared border. And the Yellow Sea ain’t THAT big when it comes to bombardments.

They both have the capability of dealing immense damage to each other. There won’t be a war between China and the US because both have nukes (like you said) and orbital class rockets. Not sure any other explanation is needed.

I believe it was Marco Rubio specifically. He believes that toppling Venezuela will lead to a reverse domino effect that somehow magically ends up toppling the Communist regime in Cuba.

It’s a distraction because the CIA is the world’s biggest drug trafficking cartel in the world, and he isn’t touching that. It’s another contrived enemy of the American people created by the Trump Administration, but someone higher up (not Netanyahu, by the way) called for it.

Because for a variety of reasons the oil and gas markets are way oversupplied and Trump is trying to at least temporarily kick Venezuela out of the supply side to keep prices high.

Lots of people say oil. Even Trump himself says it’s about the oil. Since Trump says oil it’s a good bet, it’s got nothing to do with oil. Remember Trump just says what he wants people to think, he doesn’t care about the truth. And Maduro already promised Trump all the oil he wants at whatever price he wants. So it’s not oil.

I’ve heard a hypothesis suggesting that it’s being pushed by Marko Rubio and a contingent of Cuban Americans (mostly in Florida), who’ve wanted to take down the Cuban government for decades. They view Venezuela as a stepping stone, proof of concept in that direction. It’s a test. A test of both what we can do, and how the world will react. If it goes well, Cuba will be next soon.

That idea sounds actually plausible to me.

Does Cuba have oil? Do they export illegal drugs? There really don’t seem to be any similarities

I’d buy Ukraine more as a prelude to regime change in Cuba. Russia may be falling apart but they still have nuclear weapons and historically defended Cuba. Drump needed to return to his master saying Ukraine agreed to cede territory in return for peace, so his master gives the go ahead to attack cuba

That’s what the USA does. Trump is just keeping it old school by having the army do it. During Obama, three Latin American presidents were removed by US-sponsored coups, one was carried out by the military, but they have a strategy of funneling money to USA-aligned parties through “think tanks”, then gaining control of Congress. So if people elect a president the USA doesn’t like, Congress takes power on bogus claims and changes the policies for what the USA wants. If this fails the USA sponsor the military to take power. They carried out a congressional coup during Biden as well, along with a failed military coup.
It doesn’t matter if democrats or republicans are in power, the USA steals the resources from poor countries.

My country, for example, became energy self-sufficient in 2015, the next year the congress removed the president just because they had the majority. We used to have cheap gas because our internal price was linked to production cost and not international markets, the new government thought it was unfair to the free market competition because our own gas was so cheap here, so it started to subsidize American oil companies so they could sell it cheaper and compete with our own oil… yeah, you read that right, we were literally funneling tax payer money to foreign companies just so they could take our companies out of the market so the government could claim they weren’t profitable and should be sold to American investors… thanks Obama.

There are a lot of oil-related reasons his handlers have convinced him to do it. But I’m surprised nobody has said yet that Trump’s motivation - apart from his handlers and donors - is doing it is to take focus off of the Epstein files. With the new evidence that Trump sent underage girls to Epstein, it seems very likely we’ll find out Trump was actively part of organized trafficking.

Trump is not a smart person, but he knows what works. Whenever things aren’t going his way, he will escalate and distract, delay reckoning until everyone has moved on.
