alt-text: there’s laundry to do and a genocide to stop. I have to eat better and also avoid a plague. my rent went up $150. I’ll need to pick up more shifts. Twenty people died in Rafah this morning and every major news outlet is stretching the limits of passive voice to suggest whole families may have leaped up through the air at missiles that otherwise had the right of way. I just got a notification that my student loan payments are starting up again and my phone isn’t charged. My cousin got COVID for a fourth time and can no longer work or walk or even feed himself. The person across from me on the L train seems to fashion themself a punk rock revolutionary, but they’re not wearing a face mask, and that’s the kind of cognitive dissonance that makes me want to steal batteries. Fascists keep winning primaries for both parties, and I think I gained a few pounds. The CDC just announced there are no more speed limits on highways, and I think this Ativan is finally hitting. The NYPD farmer’s market only sells bad apples, have you heard that one? Listen it’s warm today, too warm for March. But I don’t have time to think through the implications because there’s laundry to do and a genocide to stop.

You’re in the right. Doomerism that “both sides are just as bad” is what Republicans want people to believe. Did Biden lead an insurrection? Not that I’ve heard of. Thinking both sides are just as bad is a childish perspective.

They are bad though. On the one hand a Palestinian lost all 60 members of his family and several thousands died. On the other hand a Palestinian would have lost all 60 members of his family and several more thousands would have died. It is hard for that Palestinian to appreciate the difference and infinitely harder for his family to appreciate the difference.

Biden is pushing for a ceasefire and sanctioning settlers, while Trump said that Israel should “finish the problem”.

If you consider a Palestinian who hasn’t lost their family yet, there’s a pretty obvious difference between the two candidates.

He literally sanctioned 3 settlers, and hes been lying for weeks now about how this supposed temporary truce is happening any minute now. Meanwhile he continues to offer vocal and physical aid to Israel.

It was more than 30 settlers in the first batch, and it was clear that they wouldn’t stop there.

And it’s Hamas that is delaying the truce at this point, because they either don’t know where their own hostages are, or the hostages are all dead already and they don’t want to admit it.

              Fuck off with your lies.

President Joe Biden handed down financial sanctions against four Israeli nationals last week who were allegedly connected to violence against civilians in the West Bank amid the Israel-Hamas war.

                https://abcnews.go.com/International/israeli-settler-sanctioned-biden-speaks/story?id=106988009

It was 4 not 3, and certainly not 30. 4 people who were never going to go to the US or using US banks cant do so. Big fucking deal. Bidens an absolute flog whos doing nothing of substance.

And its not even connected to Israels current genocide in Gaza, which neans it does nothing to help end what he supports Israel doing.

Go on liar, prove this wrong.

Turns out my source was also counting other countries, so fair enough.

This month, the US, British and French governments placed sanctions on more than 30 Israeli settlers for acts of violence and incitement against Palestinians living in the occupied West Bank.

                  https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/mar/04/israel-settler-violence-sanctions

Still, a ceasefire agreement has been proposed, and Hamas is the reason it hasn’t happened yet.

Also keep in mind that sanctions need to be ramped up gradually. That gives people time to change their behavior instead of immediately being punished by brand new policies, and it makes the sanctions relevant for a much longer period of time. If you go straight to 100% and your targets just get used to it, then you can’t use that card anymore.

Although your best option is Biden and I wouldn’t say otherwise even as someone not receiving any benefits from his good internal policies, Biden still is a fascist.

He has been a practical one, by which I mean he mixes good domestic stuff with genociding halfway across the world, whereas the Orange Jello is a principled one, having done and still aiming to very bad domestic choices and genocidal fascism at both domestic and international domains.

So yeah, fascists keep winning primaries for both parties, but you still have a choice to pick the international fascist over full-time fascist.

“Fascisms is when you kill people!”. Joe Biden is a lot of things that leftists do not like, neoliberal first among them. Saying he’s a fascist is absolutely asinine and has no basis in reality. You’re watering down terms that have clear definitions.

        Fuck off.

He can easily dictate foreign policy and ensure his office is not using language supportive of Israel. He can openly condemn their actions. He can stop getting his Secretary of State to shield them at the UN. He can not fast track weapons to them. He can not push immigration bills that also have $14.1 billion in aid of Israel tacked onto them. And thats not even the half of it.

To act like PotUS is some powerless position in regards to US support for Israel is asinine.

          I will describe it, literally.

A man on a tiny motorcycle with a microwave on his head, closed covering his face, comes to a screeching halt in front of the camera, opening the door as he does. This reveals his face and a complicated mechanism to keep it on his head. He stands using the momentum of the motorcycle to propel him up and says, angrily “I know a lot of you hatin’ motherfuckers want me to fail, but guess what? It ain’t happenin! You know why? Cuz I got a motherfuckin microwave on my head!” He leans over to close the door, remounts his tiny motorcycle, and scoots away in to the city.

You can’t fix it. Turn off the news. Go for a walk.

It’s true that everything is shit. But everything has always been shit, whether you cared about it or not. And we’re all still here.

The only difference between caring and not caring is that now you’re miserable and anxious. And there’s still nothing you can do.

More importantly than the stuff that affects you is to focus on the things you can change. A friend of mine was in AA, which is a whole can of worms that I’m not going to delve into, but one thing I really like was the Serenity Prayer. I’m an atheist, but I like the thought anyway. It goes

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

This. It’s always been shit. The difference is that now, the internet is in on it. It used to be that all the TV network news would shill tons of bad news because it got more viewers than cute stories of bunnies and medical breakthroughs.

Now. The internet has caught up to that and is able to churn it out a lot more efficiently.

      Everything has always been shit.

I think you mean “voted for”, he isn’t Congress, and therefore doesn’t pass bills, unless you suggest that only passed legislation makes someone one particular political wing, in which case, I’d argue that seems like a deeply flawed understanding of government.

Was it obvious? Because it seems “obvious” to me that you moved the goalposts. If someone points to a senator or representatives at the federal level, you’d point to the lack of left-wing legislation they passed. That’s goalpost moving. Would you like me to point at non-federal positions so you can say they aren’t meaningful in spite of their passing of left-wing policies that affect my state or city? Also, I’ll give you a hint, all of those politicians are NOT one of the two major parties.

The point is that one party is definitely different from the other, especially if you’re queer, pregnant, able to become pregnant, a child, elderly, working, or a racial minority.

Because if they’re fascists they are not on opposite ends of the spectrum. The text is saying that Democrats produce fascists as well, because many Democrats enact what in regular life would be firmly right wing policies.

Because the Dems are the left wing in a bipartisan system, leftists hold the Dems to a higher standard. Likening them to fascists when they enact right wing policies against the will of the actual leftists forced to vote for them is a valid position.

There would have to be actual left wing candidates to begin with. Until then, they might be in different parties but they are firmly on the same end of the spectrum.
