  • I think the bit most people miss here is that most of these weirdly obsessed homophobic types dont think its “just a matter between two concenting adults”. Most of them, either on a consious or subconsious level believe gay marriage etc is somehow causing harm to society as a whole. It doesnt just disgust them, it quite literally terrifies them.

In the case of religeous folks, that terror can extend as far as divine retribution (i.e. floods, hurricanes, natural disasters). In non-religious folks, the terror is probably more akin to stuff like “the breakdown of law and order” or some nebulous threat of societal upheival creating chaos. But in a sense, both are effectively the same because it wont ever work to tell them to “just ignore it”.

When was the last time that calmly explaining to a religious zealot that their god doesnt exist actually succeeded in convincing them?

I dont know the actual solution to this problem. At least for the religeous folks, it will have to involve religeous figures demonstrating acceptance and disavowing sects that refuse along with a lot of actual progress and exposure to get people to empathise and humanise lgbtq+ people and realise that theyre not a threat. Its possible, its actually quite easy once the balls rolling, but its a difficult thing to do to start i think.

And this is obviously not to excuse or diminish the actions of homophobes and anti-progressives. But its important to actually understand the root of the problem if its going to be possible to change them for the better in the future.

  • Hoenstly, if youve ever seen a favourite spot or trail get absolutely overrun by instagram tourists and the general public youd understand that feeling.

Theres beautiful spots in the peak district that get so clogged up in the summer that youve got cars parked up and down every single road in a 10 mile radius.

Ive volunteered with groups that do weekly litter picks at some of these spots and trails and we’ll often run out of bags.

I dont think its selfish to wish these spots just never got discovered by the public. As soon as one of these beauty spots gets big, its a losing battle against the general public and everyone who wants to make bank from them

  • Idk what cables and devices youve been buying but ive seen an insane difference in durability going to micro to c.

For a start, none of my usb c cables have lost their gripping strength, one of which ive been using daily for over 6 years.

None of my usb c devices have had the central pin blade thing fall off or fatige to the point of not making a connection,

The one down side ive seen to usb c is that when i accidentally rolled my chsir over a connector, it did crush the oval inwards but i pried that open again and stuck it in my desk mic and its been working fine since.

  • Which continental model you use here is entirely irrelevant anyway because in neither model is north america referred to as just “america”. The only time that just “America” is used is to refer to the union of north and south america.

There is no country of America. There is the united states of america which would make the pope a statesman. So you can have the first north american pope, the first statesman pope, or just settle for second american pope.

  • If Andoid isnt your thing or it doesn’t align with your needs, at least try and buy used, refurbished, or repair it yourself if possible. Most common repairs (I.e.battery, speakers, charging port, sometimes screens) aren’t actually all that difficult and have pretty detailed guides on iFixit. Iphones get tricky but if you can, use a local independant repair shop. If it’s in your budget to buy a new phone, it’s probably in your budget to repair you old one.

  • The thing with most of them is that I really don’t understand why I need remote control of half of the white goods in my house. Why would I need to remote start my washing machine and dishwasher. I still have to load the fucker. I’ll just set a delayed start.

Why does my kettle need to boil on a schedule. It takes 2 minutes while my toast toasts.

About the only thing I understand it for is central heating. It would be quite nice to have a nice warm house for when i get home but even then, I can just set a schedule on a typical physical dial.

No need to sign in, poke holes in my network security, and give my information over to get another company that can get hacked and leak my data anyway. I’m not a Luddite but 90% of this stuff just feels like a pointless waste of money for minimal utility, reduced reliability, and compromised security.

My parents had the same washing machine for 40 years. When they replaced it, 2 of them died within 10 years after the control pcbs got wet. You’d think they’d protect against that seeing as it’s going to be in a fucking washing machine.
