A beloved family-run grocery store in Florida may soon close its doors after more than four decades in business — and the owners say tariffs are to blame.

The trouble began when President Donald Trump’s tariffs took effect, shaking the foundation of small import businesses across the country.

    News at 8:

Gullible business owner conned by Trump for the 13,123 time.

“I just didn’t think the 100’s of years of data we have on Tariffs and what they do to business was correct when Trump said otherwise. My son is blind from staring into an eclipse because Trump said that couldn’t happen too, and now I’m starting to think he might be wrong about stuff.”

I liked it when cartoons were this dumb instead of reality.

(This is not a quote from the article. I’m combining multiple stories of people getting conned by Trump for comedic effect because it’s the same story everytime.)

They never ask in these stories - would this Trump supporter be continuing that support even after being kicked in the dick? That’s the only part I’m interested in, because everything else these supporters talk about in these stories are things everyone with a brain saw coming.

They stand in front of the steam roller in Austin Powers and get squashed - would they do it again? My guess is they would, but I have to guess because no one ever asks!

Some of the stories do ask. Every one I have seen or heard, they still support Trump. They are unhappy about the specific issue affecting them, but they still believe the rest of his policies are the best ones on offer.

I do not believe turning voters is viable. But discouraged, less enthused Trump voters are more likely to stay home next election, so I see examples like this as potential hopeful signs for our country’s future.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I wonder how much of that is “you guys need to do something more than protest” being interpreted as “go out and kill people”.

There is more that can be done that doesn’t involve violence. But every time it comes up, there is some excuse for why it can’t be done.

Lots of Canadians, like me, are frustrated and tired of watching America sleepwalk into full blown fascism. And while I respect people for protesting, I’m at the same time appalled that this was not the largest protest in US history.

So good on everyone who tried but shame on you as a nation if that is the best you can do.

It sounds like you really do fucking care about their opinion. It also sounds like you’re projecting your own cowardice onto them.

The people out in the real world, attending these protests, especially in red states, are much more brave than you, and their actions are much more effective than anything you could possibly do or say here.

In your own words, “get fucked”.

To the protesters yesterday, do you see that the protests had exactly zero impact?

The protests right now are a glorified meet and greet. Most of these folks have never protested before.

But all the pamphlets and people I met proved that we are organizing and spreading ideas. This is how it starts.

The ‘protest’ part of the protest is just marketing. The actual work is when you meet the local unions and shake hands with the local powers. And no better time to meet them than a ‘protest’

Everyone who actually went to the protest knows what I’m talking about. The speakers and such are whatever and just preaching to the choir, but important to draw crowds. The actual work gets done at the tables and booths on the side.

Go to the next protest. Organize. We have 3 years before the next Presidential election, we have 1 year before the next congressional election. The time is ticking and we need to get the grassroots process started. It takes a long time.

Exactly. Wow at least one American that gets it. Mostly. The part where elections happen is for some reason a big mental block that almost everyone seems to have. You keep hope I guess but no way is that happening on this trajectory.

That’s why I said “you better get phone numbers”, ir the protest itself is toothless, so hopefully everyone was making the most of it.

I fucking love seeing all the downvotes when reality bites. Just so you know, downvoting on social media is not going to save your country, and your eternal optimism (read: blatant naivety) will be…nay, IS… your downfall.

Wong, who supported Trump in the last election, said he was swayed by campaign promises to reduce grocery costs. But now, as his business struggles to stay afloat, he admits the reality looks very different. Grocery inflation is at a two-year high, and prices continue to climb with no end in sight.

Guess he didn’t believe him on tariffs though when he runs an import business.

Volume will make you more money than margins, Walmart proved that pretty handily. Cheaper groceries means more volume. They were pretty on point with that logic, grocery stores generally want cheaper stock so people buy more.

Tolerance requires the recipient to be grateful for the tolerance. These people see tolerance as a weakness to be ruthlessly exploited.

We tried tolerance, it didn’t work. We can’t make that mistake again. We need to pivot to a strategy the MAGAs will understand and respect, which is crushing them mercilessly. The majority of them are not capable of learning. These people live fact-less lives. Their worldview is shaped by feeling and what others tell them. There is no use of critical thinking, reflection, scientific method, facts, or figures.

Unfortunately, they will only learn with a massive amount of pain.
