Fuck uncovered lighting. I want light, not a blinding light source. Cover that shit up.
Dude appreciates a nice sconce

It just needs to be warm lighting. Any cool color lightbulbs don’t belong inside a house (unless it’s a workbench or something)
Warm lighting fucks up the apparent colors of my walls and makes them look quite sickly, because the colors I have don’t mix well with yellow (ime, most bright colors don’t mix well with warm lights, and my colors specifically are mostly in the blue/purple/red side of the color wheel), so you are incorrect.
It’s all about balance; cool lights don’t need to be as intense for the same apparent lumen result. Or, you know, get a shade. I don’t even own any warm lights anymore, but the only real clue is that my walls are the correct color at night…
I guess I just strongly prefer warm colored lighting. Cool colored lighting drives me crazy. To each their own ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There’s a difference between a 6000k and 4500k light. The latter is still warmer without being yellow. It’s usually bellow 3500k that it starts to fuck up with colors. But, a 6500k or more light will also fuck up your wall colors and make the house look like a factory warehouse. It also makes people look sickly and unnatural, and it is known to trigger headaches and migraines. Also, people’s opinions can’t be incorrect, it’s their opinion. Let them have it.
I also use the night mode on my phone and computer 24/7. It gets more red at night.
Harlot lights. Harlights.
who the fuck invented strong overhead lighting. fixing lights to the ceiling like fucking savages.
can we please go back to the era of cozy desk lamps?
who the fuck invented strong overhead lighting
Well, in the beginning…
Well it’s a good thing to have when it’s evening and you drop something on the floor.
Or when there’s a scsry bug crawling around at midnight.
Whenever I open my window all I ever get is insects. I never get cool little birds, or small woodland creatures. No, just 50 different leggy insect things. None of which appear to be able to navigate out of the giant hole in the wall they just came through.
They can’t navigate themselves out because they want to be your friend.
But in all seriousness I have put up that fine mesh stuff so I can have my window open most of the time without inviting them in.
They hate us because they ain’t us.
Imma corner you in the store and try to talk to you.
I’ll just cry and make you uncomfortable until you go away
The tears will come when I talk uncomfortably loud while just a little too close to you.
Please, this is too much. I need to lay down for a while.
I stole your weighted blanket. And your squid so you can’t tell the world how you feel about that.
That was just a decoy!! (It’s a shark you were looking for)
I feel like I just witnessed an unnegotiated BDSM scene in these comments.
Pretty sneaky, sis.
It’s the noise of a forklift backing up and air compressors for me. I never said a word about it but I noticed one of the factory workers always turns it off when he sees me. Really appreciate it and I give him homemade baked goods.
Think my wife turns on the vacuum cleaner when she is angry at me, but that is probably too cynical.
Edit: ivrofiht
I brought my game boy to school
Edit: no idea what happened there I’m old
I think the lighting in my house would trigger everyone here.
This should be a bannable offense
Please go find a corner to sit in and think about what you have done.
especially if it spins with the fan
For when you want to recreate the cozy feeling of getting flashbanged
But WHY
Previous homeowner installed the fan and it has 3 candelabra sized sockets. Getting regular bulbs for it were far too dim. So I got these. And then the enclosure didn’t fit so I said fuck it.
TBF, I mostly keeps the lights off in my house. I’m currently sitting in darkness on my computer.
No shit, why would you turn the lights on if it’s those lights. Get yourself some illumination customized to your needs before your eyes give up on life.
When I want light. I want LIGHT.
Aziz, LIGHT!
Yes, much better, thank you, Aziz
Ok, fair.
Cheap Chinese housefire bulbs
Not cheap, but definitely Chinese.
What in tarnation
OOTL, what am I looking at?
I think those are three of those high powered, high lumen led bulbs. For when you want to simulate looking straight at the sun whenever you look up in your living room.
reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Wait hold on is this something that bothers other ADHD people? How did they know this was an effective threat? Is this wildly known?
Is this why my parents would always turn the light on when I was in a room alone and I was sort of in trouble for forgetting my brother at the park?
Yes, the neuotypicals use the light as a weapon against us, we must rise up and usher in a new era of comfortable semi-darknesss
i’m gonna max your cellphone brightness
My wife has finally learned that I’m ok with overhead lightning, but it can’t be at 100% it actually makes my eyes hurt at max intensity. I’m also a ginger and recently learned we apparently tend to have sensitivities to light as well. I never stood a chance lol
How have you managed to adapt to getting struck by lightning regularly? This is something I’ve been trying to sort out for myself or some time so needless to say I am very curious
Lol, the smartass answer is: not easily. The serious answer for me has been a really good pair of polarized anti-glare sunglasses. I wear glasses myself so the sunglasses are prescription and my regular glasses are also transition. Whenever possible I use lights that can be dimmed and prefer using non overhead lighting. My house has a lot of windows so I will usually keep those open since that bothers me less than the regular lights. But as it gets later in the day my eyes get more sensitive so I will dim/turnoff lights gradually as it gets later. Obviously I’m not always in locations with this much control so sometimes I have to tough it out for a bit. The sunglasses are lifesavers in those instances because they aren’t just dark to help with brightness so I can usually wear them even inside and still be able to see. Sorry for the formatting since I’m on my phone and hopefully that helps at least somewhat.
(psst: widely known, in case it’s not just an autocorrect fluke)
Honestly, I like the other way better. I think I’m switching on this one.
It really doesn’t bother me, although bare florescent bulbs trigger my migraines.
I think they gave everyone migraines. Years ago I remember a lot of people complaining in the office about it and then the office replaced them with something else I think they were LEDs.
Also they make an annoying buzzing noise.
Oh, I replaced all of those with drop in LED replacements. All I had to do was tear out the ballasts and plug in the new lights.
Everyone I know: turns on the keilig spotlight interrogation-quality canned lighting array, flooding the environment with blinding flourescent and/or blue-as-fuck white LED light
Me: aiight Imma head out
…i stocked up on several hundred high-efficiency incandescent (short-life halogen) bulbs the week before retail sales were banned completely, which should last me about three more years despite their pitifully short lifespan compared to traditional (previously-banned) incandescent bulbs…
…while LED lighting’s improved over the past decade and admittedly surpasses notchy-as-fuck compact flourescent bulbs, i can only hope that LED technology evolves further to offer less-abhorrent spectra by 2028, elsewise i’ll be seeking black-market imports after my reserve incandescent bulbs are exhausted…
You’ve been able to buy warm light LEDs for about 10 years now.
I have two right now, also a fancy one that basically looks like an incandescent bulb because of the shading in the glass.
…yeah, and despite marketing to the contrary they’re still all crap at reproducing incandescent spectra, even the ultra-premium cree bulbs…
There’s always colored bulbs or housings too.
This is a strangely satisfying comment
Can someone explain, please?
ND people are cave dwelling creatures that have evolved in the total absence of light. Turning on the ceiling light will blind and disorient the ND.
I’m not welcomed in the realms of the sun, besides everyone out there is a dick.
Neurotypicals for some reason think the main light is ok to use.
There was an era in home building, decades ago, when overhead lighting in living rooms wasn’t really a thing. They had table and floor lamps. That was good enough. Some fucker along the way thought he was being smart by adding an overhead light in the living room.
We need to find him and exact revenge.
That fucker must have lived in my house with his shitty ideas.
I have a plethora of overhead lighting options that just makes you go “fucking why, though???”. Seriously the place is ancient and used to have gas lamps and a coal chute, so all retrofit, most rooms have two light switch panels with 4-8 switches - the tiny bathroom has 8 switches on 3 panels ffs, but kitchen and living room have -5 panels each- for the overhead lights. Fucking absurd. (And don’t even ask about my breaker box… absolute nightmare. Since stuff is wired into whatever they felt like, the master bedroom shorts out the kitchen 🫠)
I really want to get someone in to rewire… remove all that crap.
My house was built in the 19th century. We have a shortage of closet space. I assume that clothing was much more expensive back in the day so they had less of it.
This is the correct answer.
A lot of ND folks have some specific sensory issue that overstimulates them, and overhead lights are a common visual one. (A common auditory one might be ambient noise like traffic, and a tactile one might be the feeling of certain fabrics on their skin).
ooh my tactile icks would be silk-y textures and microfiber cloth. In addition to soap and lotions so I try to be efficient with it before I can’t stand the feeling
It’s very common for autistic people to feel uncomfortable in artificial overhead lighting. Natural light from windows, lamps, or no light at all is often preferred.
i just fucking detest certain kinds of light sources no matter where they are, i think so long as it’s got proper good CRI and isn’t clinically blue i’m fine with it.
i actually recently got some extra bright bulbs for my room because i’m sick of walking outside and feeling like a vampire, indoors needs to be brighter so my eyes learn to use the pupils.
Many people on the spectrum go through life with speakers blasting in their ears, wearing steel wool for clothing, and staring at the light output of a small sun. Additionally picking up on tiny flickers in sound and light.
So if your entire day is your senses screaming at you when you get home you kinda want dim lights and less noise.
I assume the image here is someone teasing a friend playing up a preference as a kryptonite-like substance.
I have tape or marker covering all the blue lights that I can. So many small electronics have piercing blue LEDs and I just cannot deal. Bring back the old ruby red console lights please!
I will say though that new phones NEED to start including the LED indicator. I actually hate how I can’t just glance at my phone and tell if I have a voicemail, text message, missed call, and/or email waiting. Now I have to pick the thing up, turn on the screen, look at what it is, and actively choose to ignore it.
It’s a lot more work.
AMOLED Alway On Displays are your friends. My phone shows the time, battery charge and notification icons, very dimly, everything else is pitch black. It’s better than the blinking led ever was. It sits on the table, if it vibrates, I look at it and decide if it is important or not based on the icon that shows up, then I ignore it anyways.
The problem is, I don’t want a screen always on. I just want the option to have a blinky light.
My Pixel 2 XL had it. I miss it after switching to the Nord n200

My wife always puts black nail polish on those little shits. I love her
Electrical tape ftw, but I have also just snipped off the red LEDs of my old sound card. And I’ve spray painted the metal chassis black. Man I hate Creative so much.
wait until you learn about the Rgb soundcard
Lord, I had a cheap PA system for band practice with a blue power LED that felt like it was gonna bore a hole through my eyes.
So I put some duct tape on it.
Then it felt like the light from under the duct was gonna bore a hole through my eyes.
I cannot abide the light pointing straight down, we evolved architecture specifically so we could make the light be sideways or whichever other direction. If I wanted overhead lighting Id go out in the sun like an animal.
Tell me you wanted a light fixture rapidly disassembled without saying so.
My partner sometimes likes to fuck with me by switching our light string from warm to blue white color and it makes me hiss like a cat.
I know they’re terrible and gon for a good reason… But.
I miss old school lights. I remember as a kid, around town in the winter. Pitch black at 6pm. -20f, absolutely still air. All you can hear is the hum of the sodium lights. Just the warmest red/orange light.
I’m probably just an old man reminiscing, but the world won’t produce temperatures, light, or silence like that anymore. Now it’s just the harshest led lights, a million beeps, and half heard music on shit ass speakers.
Well, maybe today’s silence doesn’t hum like a sodium light, but it continues to exist. I still enjoy your poetic reminiscence tho.
I have been fishing around for fome heavyweight lighting, can’t even find those 500W halogen ones any more. Just as you say leds with crappy light.
No, the “any color light bulbs” are good either.
All my lights used to be blue white. I wanted maximum light for my light. Lately I can’t stand it, they all have to be warm now. I don’t know what changed.
I can feel this.
I’ve adjusted my mood light to green at 70%
Red, 5%

Didn’t know that enjoying comfortable lighting is neurodivergent
The divergence is what sort of lighting you consider “comfortable”, in case you were serious.
Isn’t it generally accepted that directional, dim lighting makes for a more comfortable atmosphere? I doubt that any professional interior or lighting designer would just put a single omnidirectional ceiling light in the middle of the room and call it a day, for good reason. So how is enjoying that neurodivergent? Tbh it seems more neurodivergent to me to be comfortable with bright cold light at home — that’s serial killer behavior, lol.
Seems more like a question of preferences or caring / not caring about something rather than being neurotypical or not.
I doubt that any professional interior or lighting designer would just put a single omnidirectional ceiling light in the middle of the room and call it a day, for good reason.
Well, they might because it’s cheap.
Well sure, but the point is they wouldn’t do it because people prefer it.
Indeed. At least not as a some form of lighting. Better to have area and spot lighting (and flexibility for different moods/situations).
Interesting choice to associate neurodivergence with serial killer behaviour haha
Hyperbole, and the other way around — serial killers are obviously neurodivergent, but of course not all neurodivergent people are serial killers, haha.
I like it. Sometimes I want to feel awake and see everything. Options are everything (especially between white and yellow).
Exactly: there’s ambient lighting, and theres the Daylight button.
Hey light is less a problem than midnight snacking.
