Sure, fucking sure… kept staring at the screen after i put the three dots and so much was going through my head to write about this but all that was left after about 30 mins of staring at the screen was what’s the point, it’s like trying to put out a wildfire with a dry dish rag.

This could have been a 30 minute conversation.
I recognize that my inability to listen to random people yap is my own problem, but get to the point.

If that’s a problem for you then Behind the Bastards is not for you.

I’d say that the aim of the podcast is not to document the events in question (that information could always be found elsewhere) but to document the back story behind the events in detail.

That not necessarily the problem—I’m the type to watch the multi-hour retrospectives about videogames—the problem is all the off-topic chitchat.

From the source I linked in my other coment:

By the time his victims came forward, the statute of limitations for his actions had expired.

I don’t know how long it would have been back then, but today, sexual assault of a minor has a maximum prison sentence of more than ten years but less than life, so the statute of limitations is 20 years.

There are a lot of decent people working for the government that do an amazing job given the constraints they are put under.

But thank you for your nuanced take, I guess?

I remember when I first swapped to Lemmy nuanced discussions were numerous, been seeing a lot of relatively new accounts stirring up shit and doing the classic “I’m gonna make them look so stupid huehuehue”

You’re right though, despite the fact there are a lot of sociopaths and psychopaths in government positions, there are a lot of social workers and general day to day folks that are normal or go above and beyond to try and help their community with what little power they have.

Kentler believed pedophiles could make acceptable foster parents, and that any sexual contact would be relatively harmless if it were not forced.

How’s that for a nuanced take

Fun fact: That was almost exactly the time frame where the Berlin Senate was lead by the conservative CDU (who, within the same time frame, never got tired of slandering their Green opposition as the “pedophile party”)

Like many of his contemporaries, Kentler came to believe that sexual repression was key to understanding the Fascist consciousness.
